I wonder what the going rate for visits from the Tooth Fairy is these days?

Linda, the Tooth Fairy is going to be a frequent visitor in the coming year. They are both in that stage where baby teeth are making room for adult teeth.
Tooth Fairy drops off little somethings for both the tooth-loss person and the other person. It started this way for a few reasons: Ellis gets sulky and sad when she feels neglected; And Ellis was not losing a tooth so she would’ve had to watch her brother only get a prize. It’s complicated. Tooth Fairy limits the prizes at $10.
I think the Tooth Fairy realized that both kids get prizes, which started from Ellis’ doctor’s visits and emergencies. Ellis would get one for being a trooper and Elliot would get one for his patience and for going through the experience with us. Ellis used to say after a dr. visit, “I’m having a bad day. Can we go to Target?” Elliot is agreeing wholeheartedly in the backseat and suddenly so smiley.
You can’t imagine the shenanigans…

Wow – I just got a dime, but then again … we’re talking ahem … many decades ago. Now I feel old, but I’m thinking I got a dime, maybe a quarter. That’s an interesting concept you have that each one is jealous of the attention for the tooth or a medical issue. You deserve a reward too and that’s a little scamming going on as to the visit to Target for a bad day. These kids are smart aren’t they? 🙂

lol. I don’t think I got anything. As a kid of immigrant parents, I wasn’t aware that Tooth Fairy only comes if you put the tooth under a pillow. Shucks…missed out on some cool toys or $.
Kids are clever aren’t they?! It’s gotten a lot better over the years. It was motivated by misplaced guilt that Elliot was just there with us and had to deal with being overshadowed by his sister’s needs. And with Ellis I felt bad that she was scared and in pain. Those days are like a blur, and they have prematurely aged me many years.
Nowadays, thankfully, Targets or other fun shops are off limits because of COVID. The credit card thanks me as well. 🙂
She’s older now and can equate that bad day does not equal Target. Kids’ minds are hilarious when they’re younger.

Like you, being an only child didn’t necessarily mean I was spoiled. Whether the dime was just par for the era or my parents decided a dime or so was enough for a tooth, I don’t know. I imagine it’s been difficult and you have weathered many a storm. Brilliant association of Target toys and goodies to wipe out the experience. 🙂
