Welcome to my blog! My name is Esther and I'm so happy you are here. I'm an avid nature photographer and a daydreaming thinker. My posts revolve around photos of nature's beauty, homeschooling adventures with my 2 kids, sporadic reflections on my child's heart condition, Bible reading reflections, gardening feats, and other mish mash things. Hopefully you'll leave encouraged, pensive, or smiling at the simple things of life. Thank you for stopping by and hope you'll find some interesting posts to read!

      1. Yellow daidies are so cheerful. I’m doing well and my children’s book tour just started today. Both eBook and print book are on Amazon and so far only eBook is on Barnes & Noble. I’m still working on the hardcover version on B&N.

The weather is warming up and it will be hot in a few days.

      2. Oh yay! Congrats on your first day of book touring. Are you going to write about your experience on your blog?
I’ll order my copy on Amazon!
It’s going to be very hot here too…strange weather pattern. Hot during the day and chilly at night. But there’s been some wind during the day too.

      1. Yes, like sunbursts making us happy. I am well Esther and hope you are the same. I went to the dentist today and go for my second COVID shot tomorrow. I was not in favor of going to the dentist as we are so bad with COVID here in Michigan, but figured it might get worst, so bit the bullet.

      2. Congratulations on getting your second dose of Covid vaccine and going to the dentist!! I hope you’re not having any side effects. It feels risky to see a dentist or optometrist, but they must take a lot of precautions for their sake as well as others. I say this yet I haven’t gone to either. I need my eyes checked though…
I got my first dose a week ago and thankfully I just felt tired (I’m usually tired so I didn’t know if it was from the actual shot). Grateful for the vaccine and this particular vaccination site was wonderful!
Let’s hang in there longer and keep wearing masks and all that good stuff. Since people are getting vaccinated, hopefully the numbers will go down.

      3. Here in Michigan we are the worst in the nation for COVID stats so I figured if I moved the appointment, things could get worse. That’s what I did when dentists opened back up in May 2020 – I had an April appointment, so they were ready to schedule for early June and I said I was leery, then we had another surge and I called and rescheduled to July. Great you got your first dose. I was only tired from the first dose, but I had side effects from the second dose (got it Tuesday) which was a very sore/red arm and tired and flu-like symptoms but am 100 percent better today.

      4. Thank goodness you are over the symptoms!! It can make you feel so out of it, and also the fear of not knowing what side effects it will have on you.
This morning I read an article about the rising Covid rates in Michigan. People are not as eager to get vaccinated as the beginning and many places have leftover vaccinations. Maybe people are getting Covid fatigue, although it’s too soon to get comfortable. The word “surge” freaks me out these days.
        Happy you are vaccinated. 🙂

      5. I am glad I feel better, but I had read about the symptoms for the #2 shot and the pharmacist warned about it as well beforehand, but the full side effects were lousy and I thought I’d be lucky and escape them. Yes, Michigan was once in such a good spot, but now is still worse in the U.S. and they were having walk-up clinics today because they had a surplus of 7,500 vaccines – amazing isn’t it? I think it is COVID fatigue too to a big extent.

      6. That’s a huge surplus!! I hope those don’t go to waste and people are motivated to vaccinated without the hassle of getting an appointment. Maybe without the appt. barrier, it’ll make it easier.
Oh no, that’s awful to hear about feeling lousy. How long did it last?
I’m worried about the side effects of the 2nd dose too. Heard something similar. I’ve never had this much anxiety about the side effects of the vaccination. What a year and all these new experiences. We will never forget such a crazy time in our history!!

      7. Yes, I heard they were doing the open appointments as people were just not showing up – perhaps they got closer appointments, but those huge shot clinics in Detroit were very well run, expedient and usually you must pay a hefty fee to park to attend any event in downtown Detroit, but they were waiving the parking fee, but it made it easier to go. I heard Dr. Fauci say he was worried about us achieving the 70% to 75% herd immunity to quell this pandemic … I worry it won’t happen either. My side effects lasted just 24 hours Esther – just like a 24-hour flu. But I thought I had escaped the flu part because I got the shot Tuesday at 9:10 and all I had was a sore arm and fatigue Tuesday … but then Wednesday morning, got chills and then feeling sick. But Thursday, I was fine and able to walk that morning, though I stayed on my diet of Pepperidge Farm Goldfish and water for Wednesday and Thursday too to avoid anything bothering me. I had a lot of anxiety over it too as I never get sick … hopefully you won’t get any side effects. Be hydrated the day before/of/after the shot – I heard that helps. What vaccine did you have? I had Moderna, so I was 4 weeks between shot 1 and 2.

      8. Chris and I are getting the second dose of Pfizer this week. I hope it goes smoothly like the first dose where the side effects were minimal: sore arm and fatigue (although it could’ve just been normal fatigue). The anxiety of getting it and not knowing what to expect made the fatigue worse. We’ve already planned to get take-out for dinner on vaccination day.
Sorry to reply late to your comment about you having an averse reaction to your second dose. I’m happy to hear that you are better from it now and you knew how to ride out the sickness. What works or me is plain rice cakes, toast, slices of apple, or unsalted pretzels when I feel ill.
Isn’t it a relief to have the vaccine experience behind you?! There’s some peace of mind that comes with it. Let’s hope for herd immunity in the near future (although I have my doubts too).

      9. No problem Esther I am always late these days. Glad to hear you and Chris are both getting your second shots this week. I will be considered fully vaccinated tomorrow (Tuesday) as it’s 14 days since my last shot. I’m happy for that. I never get sick so that is why that 24-hour bug hit me so badly and I was okay the next day. They said to stay hydrated and it helps – I did say hydrated though. It is worth it for the protection.

  1. So lovey! Are you doing iReady testing? We have another testing session tomorrow… hoping they can finish it up… might need another session though…
    Ugh 🤦🏻‍♀️

    1. We have the second one on Tuesday morning. The first one went ok, but the emotional prep for it was long and painful. iReady is the only test my son has taken and it’s not a favorite.
I hear you…it’s lingering over my head. I hope tomorrow is the final test day for you guys. Not fun at all. Hang in there, semester is almost over! BTW, are you still considering the private option?
I’m glad you liked the flowers photo. Yellow flowers remind me of happy days, open fields, and the countryside. I’m funny like this. lol

      1. We are still considering the private option. I resist loosing the funding, support and relationship with our ES but it seems headed towards more assessment and accountability than I want to do. It’ll be a difficult decision either way. Best of luck with testing. Sending prayers for peace!

      2. The testing is over but it wore both of us out. It had more of an emotional impact than I thought. When you homeschool, it’s hard not to take it personal by testing scores.
I understand it’s a hard decision to make. If you do decide the private route, it’s a transition to a new experience; but hey, it could just be the right thing for you guys!
I wasn’t aware that they were going to incorporate more assessment and accountability. I really should read their emails.
You can do this and you know your kids best! Praying God’s wisdom guides you…hugs lady!
