Cee, another cacti this week!

Seems to be a time of transitions as kids prepare to go back to school or already started school… let’s make it a great beginning! I’m giving myself major pep talks.

  1. Unique – but ouch if you backed up into it. My mom had cactus gardens on the windowsill for years and once got a cactus spine embedded in her arm. She was leaning over the sink to water them and she was short. We had to go to the doctor to have it removed. Yikes!

    1. I didn’t think of that, but wow, that would be painful!! It was scary to even touch it, which I didn’t do.
      Cacti are beautiful plants but those thorns are thorny. It’s serious to see a doctor about an embedded spine. One of my neighbor’s daughters got her hand infected from a splinter and had to have surgery. Pretty wild! The body is so resilient yet so sensitive.
      Yes, let’s stay clear of cacti spines. 🙂

      1. I could see that spine from a small cactus in my mom’s lower forearm near her wrist. She wanted me to try and dig it out by squeezing it and using a sterilized needle like you would a thorn or a wood splinter, but it was too far in. Scary for your neighbor’s daughter too. A foreign body under your skin and causes all these issues, like Elliot’s bug bite, is very scary indeed.

      3. After my mom’s cactuses all died (they got a disease with mites), I brought my mom some very realistic-looking cacti in individual dishes. Unless you’re right on top of them, you can’t tell they are fake-’em outsL”

      2. You’re welcome! I haven’t had much luck with cacti in the past until my friend gave me a large stem of her aloe plant. It’s grown and has been propagated into 2 other pots. That’s success in my feeble gardening history.
