Nature walk finds on Monday, May 8, ’23

Weather this Monday afternoon was breezy and sunny, a perfect kind of day to get some fresh air. We found new flower specimens, plants, and birds on our walk.

Google lens identified this as Agrocybe praecox: considered edible with bitter taste and not the best quality mushroom to eat

Yellow Bush Lupine
Vinca Major. Greater Periwinkle
Claytonia parviflora, native to California. Abundant here with varying sizes. Some were turning yellow and not as lush green as this one.
Pineapple weed. New small growths on the walking path. I wonder how tall and bushy they will become over time.

Those long green reeds reminded me to tall green onions. lol. Last summer, this is the site where we saw a deer carcass with a vulture tearing into it. You can find the post here.

  2. So many here that I’m not familiar with. Just a note: even when some app suggests a mushroom is edible, don’t try it unless a local expert confirms it. Fungi of all sorts are terrifically hard to identify: look, but don’t sauté is the best advice!

    1. Oh, don’t worry! I wouldn’t try a wild mushroom no matter what the app told me. It would be a frightful experience. lol. It must take a lot of studying and research to become a fungi expert, hopefully, they don’t have any bad experiences from it.
