Flower of the Day: May 16, 2020

Pink is one of my favorite colors. These roses are so feminine and sparkly!! Just some dusting of glitter and it’ll be perfect.

Have at great start to another quarantine weekend. Stay safe and well.

Thanks Cee for the FOTD challenge!

Welcome to my blog! My name is Esther and I'm so happy you are here. I'm an avid nature photographer and a daydreaming thinker. My posts revolve around photos of nature's beauty, homeschooling adventures with my 2 kids, sporadic reflections on my child's heart condition, Bible reading reflections, gardening feats, and other mish mash things. Hopefully you'll leave encouraged, pensive, or smiling at the simple things of life. Thank you for stopping by and hope you'll find some interesting posts to read!

      1. It is pouring very hard now – stormy later, so I figured I’d best get on WordPress and pick through pictures later before the stormy weather has me shutting off the computer.

      2. Thank you Esther – I think we are now done with storms thankfully, but it stormed overnight. I was lucky and did not lose any power, but it has been raining constantly for almost 24 hours – what dismal and dreary weather!

      3. No more storms and fear of losing power!! My goodness, what a long winter it’s been for you. The sound of rain is so nice but when the power flickers, that would make it scary and inconvenient. We get long periods of drought that makes rain a welcome thing. Today we got sudden rain and my kids were getting ready to take a walk. This is our snail searching adventure.
Five minutes later, it was over. They were so bummed. Hope you have a warmer May!!

      4. We had something weird happen today. I was sitting here and next thing I knew the power went out – out for about 2-3 minutes. It was not storming at the time. It tripped the digital clocks, not good for the computer, or fridge. I hope our weather normalizes pretty soon!

      5. That is weird! In those 2-3 minutes, I would be wondering if this was a passing power outage or a longer one. The resetting of all electronics is a hassle though.
We had rain last night and some this morning. Erratic weather in California.
Have a good evening and hope that power power stays on!! Power outage at night creeps me out.

      6. Yes, I don’t like power outages at night and we have a few more storms this weekend – I don’t know if they will be bad or not and I’m reluctant to go to the store as it is (since I’ve not been since the Coronavirus began since I stock up in the Winter, though I have run out of perishable items) … but if I finally go and then we have a power outage, I’ll be mad. They have had massive flooding in mid-Michigan, water up their roof of the houses.

      7. That intensity of a storm is foreign to me. We have earthquakes.
I hope warmer and drier weather arrive soon after this weekend’s storm. My goodness, nature is so awesomely beautiful but so frightening too.
Eeeek, hard to make that decision of going to the store. This current situation is making things very complicated. Hoping you make the right choice for yourself!! (Is that weird to say? I’m saying that I hope deciding will not be such a stressful thing).

      8. We do typically have a least one day of rain for Memorial Day holiday weekend it seems. This long holiday weekend with storms and rain off and on it seems will be no different – the only nice weather day is Saturday. I am not going to do any yardwork yet since it is still a little early and regrowth happens if I do it before the end of May and next week we have a lot of showers/thunder as well. I don’t need lots of groceries, just perishables mostly – so will decide whether to go tomorrow before work or early Saturday morning. I hate cutting into my walking time though and we hare going to have very warm (even hot) temps Sunday and Monday. I was content with the 60s, not necessarily the high 70s/80s.

      9. Thank you Esther. I had ordered something from Amazon that was due today and another item due tomorrow and both are delayed until Monday which I find odd … maybe they were coming from subsidiaries based in MIchigan? Now I hear the hurricane season is going to be troublesome this year due to the warm Winter. Mother Nature is sure testing our mettle.

      10. Our Amazon deliveries have been erratic. Some I ordered last are arriving before ones I ordered 2 weeks ago. They must be overwhelmed with deliveries. Mostly I order from Target or do order and pick up. You order online and they get it ready for you to pick up in an hour or two.
Hurricane?! Seems there’ll be more staying home this year. Stay safe!

      11. Yes, I heard on the news this morning that more and more people are not going to the grocery store becaue of virus fears and ordering food online. I did get a few items from Amazon, but am out of perishables and ran out of dairy and meat items a few weeks ago. We are having stormy weather this weekend and the week ahead so just as well I didn’t get refrigerated food in case the power went out.

      12. Once you have the herbs down pat, you can go to vegetables … I heard about a month ago that lots of people are hearkening back to “victory gardens” during the pandemic.

      13. Yes, you’re right! This pandemic is making people go back to the olden days. We’ve relied too much on convenience at grocery stores and this pandemic is reminding us of taking a step towards self- sustainability.
Never heard of “victory gardens.” I will have to look that up. Thanks for sharing! Hope you have a good weekend friend.

      14. It was during the two world wars – I don’t know that much about it as I’m not a history buff, but I know that the pandemic made it a good idea, not just for knowing where your produce came from and no germs on it, but also that feeling of pride for creating a victory garden. I should have included the link – I found some info on Wikipedia:

I thought it was a bit of a wasted weekend actually Esther. The weather folks (more than one weather person and more than one station) all predicted a stormy weekend. We have not yet had rain or storm (the storm part is fine with me). It was very hot, above average … they thought we’d break a record this weekend. I decided to go grocery shopping yesterday … my first foray to the grocery store since March 1st. Today I woke up and it was hot and put on the A/C and it was not working. Had to have a tech come in late today – by then it was 79 in the house! Two weeks ago we had snow flurries!
