FOTD: 8-5-’22. Daisy & surprise visitor

I took these pictures on a brisk walk back to the car after a beach visit. Ellis was pulling on my arm with a big frown: basically she was telling me to stop the photo-taking shenanigans. Bossy pants! So when I noticed the bee later, it was a pleasant surprise.

Included with the flower pics, I’m also adding her rock stack art.

Thanks Cee again for hosting! Have a great start to the weekend.

Also, thank you readers for stopping by. Appreciate all of you.

Welcome to my blog! My name is Esther and I'm so happy you are here. I'm an avid nature photographer and a daydreaming thinker. My posts revolve around photos of nature's beauty, homeschooling adventures with my 2 kids, sporadic reflections on my child's heart condition, Bible reading reflections, gardening feats, and other mish mash things. Hopefully you'll leave encouraged, pensive, or smiling at the simple things of life. Thank you for stopping by and hope you'll find some interesting posts to read!

    1. Those are the fun surprises of taking random pictures. I accidentally photo bombed a family at the zoo, so that was funny. The lady was not amused even though I photo bombed in my attempt to stay out of their way. lol. Oh well.

      1. Sometimes it happens and you don’t even notice people until you get home and look at your photos.

I had a strange thing happen to me a couple of weeks ago. I was at Memorial Park near my house, two blocks away. They have a volunteer garden there – four separate quadrants of raised garden beds. Well, the volunteers are doing pretty good trying to revive the roses which long went dormant and the perennial garden is looking good. It is all teenagers from the high school on “The Green Team”.

So there was this elderly lady digging in the irises on hands and knees and a few yellow leaves were laying about. There are some homeless people that live in the park and to tell you the truth, I thought she was one of them and she was hiding something under the iris plants. I was there to take pictures of Swallowtail butterflies in the Lantana, second time this Summer. So she got up to move and I realized she was a volunteer and wished I’d taken a pic of her on hands and knees, but I figured I’d take her pic near the flowers. So we chitchatted a good 15 minutes, her telling me about her years volunteering at various parks and she was 85 years old. She was very nice and I told her about my blog and that I took pics of the flowers and butterflies before she saw me that day and before and then I ASKED (key word is I asked) if I could take a picture of her to go with my pictures for my post. I was only going to do Wordless Wednesday butterflies and then I knew I could write about her for a Monday post as she was pretty interesting. She went ballistic on me and had her pruning shears in her hand, raised her hand up (no threat to me as I could step back, but it was kind of a stupid way to make her point) … her point being “young lady, I forbid you to take my picture, do you hear me – I forbid you. And furthermore, I see your camera lens is open and I know you’re going to try to sneak a picture. I want you to go away and get out of my sight!” Really? Do I look like the paparazzi … it is only a picture and I ASKED! I haven’t been back there as the heat was starting to dry up the Lantana flowers. They don’t water over there and we went weeks without rain. But I walked away mad to be honest – I wasn’t about to pick a fight with a senior citizen, but still ….

      2. Wow, what a fiasco! That lady was really paranoid. You asked, and she just could’ve said “no.” You must’ve been shocked by that encounter and quite frightened. I wonder what prompted her overreacting.
She just could’ve said “no.” Maybe she had a bad experience in the past, whatever that might’ve been.
Sorry Linda that you had that scary encounter. That encounter was not a happy surprise but a surprise nightmare encounter. Yikes, Stay safe out there!!

      3. Thanks Esther – I have the DLSR that I use on weekends and the rest of the time I use the digital compact. I don’t have a smartphone. The small camera is a 12X zoom and just slips into my fanny pack. I had the big camera at that park last year or the year before and was taking pictures of Monarchs and was a little nervous due to the homeless people. There were three of them – one guy very ill laying on a park bench and said he broke both legs in the war and had agent orange symptoms and his girlfriend. We chatted it up for a while and I told him where they could go for food, shelter, shower, etc. (big church here in our City), but then they had what he called his brother (whether it was a real brother or a “bro”/friend I am not sure). My radar told me that guy was trouble. I purposely went the long way home and I just live two blocks over … that guy did nothing but stare and was not dressed like the others – he had on a leather coat (wondered if it was stolen). I just take the compact camera over there now, but not sure I’ll even go … she was so nice until she wasn’t … it was as if she just went nuts on me. I am glad I asked and didn’t just take the picture … I was thinking it would make a nice post, like the 90+ woman who walks along the Boardwalk in Wyandotte that I wrote about last year. I just have a 75-300mm “kit” lens, but it still looks like a long lens and I don’t want to look flashy. I shake my head sometimes Esther … I won’t write about this in my blog, but felt the need to share it with someone. Thank you for your concern.

      4. Thanks for sharing with me Linda! I know what you mean about not writing it on your blog…why add negativity to your blog when you’d rather forget about it? Don’t need to give that lady your time or energy.
Please be careful when out and watch your surroundings. Don’t know why some people have become so unhinged and weird. You’d think that they were offended in the worst way when it was just a misunderstood comment.
Road rage freaks me out. Chris got his car broken into 2 times this summer. Nothing was stolen but his window was smashed. It happened the week before Ellis’ surgery and he had to duct tape it until the car dealer had new windows. They were out of inventory. And you won’t believe this. It got fixed 3 weeks later. less than 24 hours, it was broken into the 2nd time. sigh…
It’s all good now. Stay safe!!

      5. Thank you for your concern Esther – the negativity in the world right now is very scary. I’m sorry that happened to Chris. Once was bad enough, but twice! And what bad timing the first time. Here we have road rage and freeway shootings and people steel catalytic converters from parked cars – the world is a scary place these days.

      6. The car thieves hit up 3 cars the first time it happened. The car next to us was a rental car and they stole his passport and computer bag. The police told us something interesting: they know which cars are rentals and target those cars in particular. We just happened to be next to it, so why not for those guy.
When the police came to write a report, Ellis was shaking from fear.
There’s all kinds of unhinged individuals. Scary to think.

      7. Interesting. I wonder why the thieves target rental cars – maybe so they can get travel documents like visas and passports to change their identity. I don’t blame Ellis being fearful – every day stepping outside of the house is stepping out of my comfort zone.

      8. It’s disheartening. I wonder how those guys would feel to have their cars broken into.
Police seem overwhelmed with these calls and say there’s not much you can do. They get away with it and keep hitting up more cars.
I get what you mean about not wanting to leave the house early in the morning, as you wrote in your post about Marge. It’s better to stay safe than sorry.
