My full and kooky life as a homeschooling mommy to 2 great kids, raising a child with HLHS (Hypolastic Left Heart Syndrome), coping with depression, following Jesus, and being much too camera happy.

It certainly looks like a bee visiting your flower, and from your photo it looks like it might be ‘nectar robbing.’ Some bees will do that — go directly into the flower at its base to get to the nectar, without going in through the opening and helping with pollination in the process. Then again, it might just be resting!

Maybe that big bug was a “nectar robber.” Thanks for introducing me to this new term.
It was not resting…buzzing around from flower to flower and its size made it very visible. Glossy and large!

Buzzy, glossy, and large makes me almost certain it was a native bee. I used to think all big bees were bumblebees, but I’ve learned there are other species, and some of them sure are glossy black and large.

It’ll be interesting to study bee species in one of our homeschooling lesson. But I fear the kids will scream just looking at the pictures.
Lately I’ve been seeing large bees; this time it was glossy and black. A few weeks ago I saw a fat orange, yellow like one. The little bees love the lavenders in our community.
Beautiful but let’s stay safe from their stings!
Have a wonderful Sunday and so happy you stopped by.

Hi Diana! So glad you stopped by. I’m doing good, thanks to God. Happy to see you are still active in the blogging world even though it’s less than before. Hope you are doing well and tackling your projects. Hugs to you and “meow” to Jerry. Take care!
