My full and kooky life as a homeschooling mommy to 2 great kids, raising a child with HLHS (Hypolastic Left Heart Syndrome), coping with depression, following Jesus, and being much too camera happy.

Hope you all are having a wonderful Easter!

I’m reminded today of the new life we have from Jesus Christ’ resurrection and the the gift of eternal gift He gives to believers. I am not worthy but He makes me worthy because of Him.

My heart feels heavy today because my mom is still feeling sick. She recently had a second hospitalization and my dad just had glaucoma surgery. He’ll have another glaucoma surgery for his other eye in a few weeks. So there’s uncertainty, stress, and frustration. However, I’m reminded again and again that Jesus is near and that there is a purpose for all things.

Thirteen years ago on Easter, Ellis was a week old and she had her first open heart surgery called the Norwood. Chris and I were on edge that day. When we came to see her in the ICU, she was wearing a pink crocheted beanie that was lovingly handmade by a volunteer. When I whispered “mommy’s here” into her ear, she opened her big eyes and stared at me. I fell in love and the rest is history.

Wow, that was a 13 years ago. 13 years we didn’t know we’d have since doctors from the early start gave us grim prognosis of her future health. We were offered compassionate care if we didn’t want Ellis to have the three stage heart’s reconstructive surgeries. She’s had 6 surgeries so far and still going strong. I’m glad we took the chance because I see His miracle in action everyday. Life is full of challenges and blips along the road and it’s essy to lose sight of the bigger picture, but His blessings are abundant and timed to perfection.

Happy Easter!

Ellis’s story is an Easter story for sure! I’m sure your celebrations will be wonderful. Best wishes and greetings to you all, especially to Elliot, who’s a darned good brother! (And don’t let anyone confuse Teddy for the Easter Bunny!)

Thank you for your very sweet comment!!It’s so kind of you to mention Elliot. Siblings of children with heart issues get overlooked often and may feel neglected, even though it’s not the parent’s intention at all. Thank you. It warmed my heart to hear that. And don’t worry about Teddy on Easter Sunday. He was relaxed and getting lots of pets and treats from friends. We went to a science outreach for 4-H today and I wanted to bring Teddy, but the kids refused. I’m glad we didn’t take Teddy. He would’ve been overwhelmed and angry with us. The place was packed with people and dj playing music in the background. We had a bookmark making booth and it was a total hit with the visitors. The event was called Science Palooza held at San Jose State University. BTW, fun tidbit: Teddy thumps in anger when he hears marbles rolling around in a glass jug and the screeching out of metal when I clean his litter. Thumping galore!

I’m sorry to hear of medical woes in your family again Esther. You have the patience of a saint with all that you deal with on an everyday basis. I know we are all in awe of you and all that weight you carry on your shoulders. I will keep your folks in my prayers.

Your kind comment reassured me so much! I was running out of patience and trying to be as present to help my mom through the translations. But it was driving me nuts!! I couldn’t believe my mom went to the ER again and got admitted for the second time in 2 weeks. There are thyroid nodules she needs checked out and now a bladder thing discovered on the ultrasound. And my dad with his glaucoma surgery and another one for this other eye. It was like a thunderstorm of issues. This week, Elliot got sick from a cold and I caught it. oyyyy, I’m hanging in there and we’re on the mend. Ellis just had a runny nose. Breathing a sigh of relief. Ever sine she started antidepressants, her stress management has improved. It was a hard call to make at first. The psychiatrist said it wasn’t depression but adjustment issues. It helps her to navigate the stresses better. Hopefully, no autumn and winter hospitalizations this year.
Thank you for your prayers!! Sorry I have not been able to visit your blog recently. I haven’t been active on WP lately.

Esther – I would be overwhelmed with what you deal with because health issues trump everything else. Thankfully Ellis didn’t get the same cold bug as Elliot and you did. That’s a blessing. I can imagine it was difficult to decide about the antidepressants, but as long as it helps Ellis deal with all the health stressors in her life it is good and hopefully the autumn and winter hospitalizations do not happen this year. That is okay, I understand. When you get a chance hop over to my Easter Day post as I used those cute bunny shots I sent you a while back and did a funny post about running into the Easter Bunny. I’ll put the post in a separate comment. And I included two more bunny paintings I did.

What a lovely post, Esther. Sad about your parents but wonderful that Ellis has battled her way through 13 years, and you’ve been there for her every step of the way xx

Thank you, Jo! It’s been amazing to see Ellis grow and thrive all these years. The first few years and other years with emergencies were rough. It’s my job to take care of her and I feel blessed to have this role, albeit the trauma that comes with it. lol
My parents are doing better after their emergencies and recovering. My dad has another glaucoma surgery coming up and my mom has more tests to do. It’s so much that they are just taking one test and treatment at a time.
I hope you are doing well! It’s been a while since I’ve been to your blog. These days I’ve been so preoccupied that I haven’t been on WP much.
