My full and kooky life as a homeschooling mommy to 2 great kids, raising a child with HLHS (Hypolastic Left Heart Syndrome), coping with depression, following Jesus, and being much too camera happy.

If I saw this snake close to me out in the pasture by myself, I would have been alarmed! Frozen and probably just stood still. But thankfully, I was a good 6 feet away from it and the teachers there were not alarmed at all.

As Christians, I believe we’re supposed to be able to handle them.

Hope you carry a big stick with you!

I forget that snakes are at the pasture and I just wander around. lol. This one stayed clear of us and didn’t want to be bothered by any humans. Lots of lizards there too. But the teacher’s assistant is comfortable around wild animals and proceeded to pet the gopher snake. Wow! It just slid down the hole.

Oh my – I wish I was that fearless of crawly things to pet it. Wow!

I hear you, Linda! We were all shocked with jaws to the ground. We were busy getting the scale to weigh the lambs on a ultra hot afternoon. The snake came out again and slid across Elliot’s shoe, but he didn’t seem to mind much. It was the teacher’s presence that made us all calm. On our own, who knows?!

Well Elliot stayed calm in the face of adversity – that’s a good thing! To everyone else it was a normal occurence!

Gopher snake is your backyard. Nice capture.

Oh no, Raj, this is not my backyard. This is the lamb’s pasture farm and this snake was hanging out near the chicken coop.
I wish I got a picture of its face, but I was so interested in seeing what it does that I missed that special moment. Ack! I was a bit too slow with my camera.

He is a good snake. Invite him to stay. He will get rid of all sorts of problems for you.

First time I met this gopher snake! This was at the lamb’s pasture farm. It camouflaged so well that I didn’t even see it until someone else pointed it out. I presume there are many more at the farm with all the holes that are there on the ground.
Good to know that he’s a good snake!

*shudder* I am terrified of snakes!

    1. singlikewildflowers Avatar

I don’t mind them if they are far away from me or I can see them behind a glass enclosure at a pet shop. Meeting one in the wild by myself is another story!! Yep, I would be terrified too!!

I’d honestly prefer seeing a few more snakes around the house. We haven’t seen any this season. Snakes eat mice and they don’t carry diseases like rodents do. I prefer snakes to mice! 😂

Oh, I can’t handle mice. They creep me out. I would get scared of snakes too since I’m not familiar with them. But yes, if I know they are not venomous, I’d prefer them too. Elliot wants to get a corn snake, which is a petite snake, but the only thing holding me back is its diet. Mice! I can’t put that in my freezer and to get a separate mini fridge for a snake’s diet seems crazy. lol. If only they ate bugs!
