My full and kooky life as a homeschooling mommy to 2 great kids, raising a child with HLHS (Hypolastic Left Heart Syndrome), coping with depression, following Jesus, and being much too camera happy.

It’s a long road to recovery. Ellis has been retching, throwing up, and having nausea since Sunday afternoon with brief moments of reprieve. We’re not going home today either.

She’s on multiple medications, but they’re not working to relieve these symptoms. It’s awful to see her in this much distress…when she gets frustrated with the intense nausea that leads to no throw up, she’ll just cry. Other times, she’ll moan and sigh.

I’m just standing by to help as much as I can, but there’s not much else to do but empathize and assist and advocate.

Pure misery! When will it ever end?

Have they ever figured out what sets off the condition, or exactly what it is? You might have said, and I missed it. It has to be terribly distressing for you all for it to return. I’m so glad it didn’t happen on your vacation.

We’re not certain what sets off these episodes, but we surmise it’s physical tiredness and stress. They happen suddenly so it throws us off and puts us in shock. But thankfully we manage to navigate it and come out stronger in the end. God is so good!
You are right…thank goodness it didn’t happen on our vacation. So every time we go somewhere I take a whole arsenal of medication that have been prescribed for her. I have her the Ativan right after she did her first vomit and hoped that it would stop the episode, but it did nothing for her. So now we have more medications to use as a prevention.
