sing like wildflowers

My full and kooky life as a homeschooling mommy to 2 great kids, raising a child with HLHS (Hypolastic Left Heart Syndrome), coping with depression, following Jesus, and being much too camera happy.

I was asked to help make 2 wreaths for a 4-H fundraiser. Although I’ve never made one, I gladly volunteered since it would take my mind off the emotional funk I was going through last Thursday.

The evergreen smell was fresh and reminded me of everything Christmas, which lasted all about 40 minutes. After that, the scent became overwhelming, but I powered through it. I looked at so the loose pines, leaves, and glitter mess on the old mattress sheet i was using as a working station, and there was no chance I would clean it up more than once. So my choice to keep going was more about practicality than about creative endeavors.

The project took me 2 hours to make 2 wreaths and an hour to clean up. Even afyer Swiffer’ing and wiping down with a microfiber cloth, our hardwood floor still has specks of red glitter that shimmer. They are almost impossible to clean!

Overall, I was happy with the final wreaths, but they look very similar to each other! My mind had more elaborate plans than what actually transpired.

Supplies
Wreaths frame. Cutting stems and wrapping them in floral wire and tying them at 45-degree angles.
Had a bushy look that later got trimmed.

Well done! It’s not easy material to work with.

Thank you! I had some anxiety that I might run out of fresh evergreen leaves after I made the first one. I got a little too excited and made the first one very full and bushy.

They’re lovely! My favorite detail is the little bee in the second wreath!

Thank you! I like the little bees too. I heard that earlier in the month specific orders were made to have particular animals on them. Some were rabbits, chickens, and cows.

They turned out beautiful, nice job for never making one before.

Both of them look very nice Esther – you did a great job. That glitter – I hate it. I only send paper cards to Ann Marie and will not buy glitter cards – the glitter sticks to everything and you can’t get rid of it. I put out four Cherished Teddy pieces around the Christmas tree and they had glitter on them … I handled them once and will have to shake the red cloth outside to get rid of the excess glitter.

These are very cute. I really enjoy the snowman and snowflake theme! You were very smart to put down a sheet to catch a lot of the pine needles. I can smell the wonderful scent from here. But I wonder what happened to all those Candi Canes in the supply kit…

Hope you had a bit of fun and that these two beauties will bring in some funds for your 4-H Club!
