Oh my gosh, I’ll need to limit Teddy’s banana snacks. He only eats a small sliver everyday but today Ellis noticed dried and matted poop around his butt. This means careful cutting away of fur and dried poop around his sensitive area.
Yikes. Every snip of fur gave me the shakes, because I’m so afraid of hurting him. Everyone, including rabbit, stays still and hauntingly quiet. The cleaning up took longer today and he twitched while I was trimming. We all got a scare and everyone had to check Teddy if there was any cuts or blood. Nothing. Sigh of relief.
But I am still unnerved and panicked at the thought of what would’ve happened if I accidentally hurt him. Ack! He’s back in his home, stretched out, and doing rabbit things like scratching and grooming. He’s eating now. Grooming is a positive sign.
My arms feel weak from fear of what could’ve happened.

glad he is all set to go – and whew – that sounds like a minor surgery! good work momma
Oh my gosh, I felt shaky afterwards. Nothing happened to him, but he got scared and did a torpedo move on me while I was holding the scissors. Ack!
you have such patience!
Thanks to Ellis’ eagle eyes – glad the ordeal is over now.
Thank you! I will never clean his matted butt again like that. It was a panic inducing experience.
No, hopefully next time it is not as bad and you can use soap and water and a cloth. Unfortunately, that’s the end of Teddy’s banana bite treats – bummer (pun kind of intended). 🙂
The pun is a nice touch! Teddy has had some banana but no bad poops. It may have been the new hay; we switched from orchard hay to timothy hay, because the feed sore was out of stock of the former. But I assure you that I will no longer be trimming matted fur around his sensitive area.
Glad you liked it – well, that’s good he can still have his banana treat then. Well that was unfortunate about the store running out of the regular hay. Such a small change in his diet and it caused problems.
I never realized that rabbits eat a lot of dry food like Timothy hay until my friend with a bunny told me to limit the carrots I gave him. I guess more dry food is out in the wild. Glad you’ve saved the day.
You did great staying calm for Teddy. Thinking of you both! 🐰💕
Thank you so much! It was frightening and Teddy was breathing loudly and his little heart beating rapidly. We all got a scare.
