Friday fun with lambs

Do you see how much closer we can get to the lambs since we started working with them two months ago? They’ve become more familiar with humans, albeit at a distance, and love the alfalfa hay that we bring them. We’re not complaining! When they’re so consumed with chomping on the alfalfa hay, they don’t mind a quick pet on the head or back. But that’s all they will allow! One gets up to leave or gets startled, the rest is not far behind to leave.

This is the second to last time we will see them. The lamb project will be over soon and we will find a new animal project to participate in, hopefully learning about rabbits and how to care for them and showmanship. As for the lambs, we knew from the start that they were being raised for meat production and this was an opportunity for the kids to learn about the agricultural business. We stayed longer than usual today to absorb more of the shepherding experience.

Welcome to my blog! My name is Esther and I'm so happy you are here. I'm an avid nature photographer and a daydreaming thinker. My posts revolve around photos of nature's beauty, homeschooling adventures with my 2 kids, sporadic reflections on my child's heart condition, Bible reading reflections, gardening feats, and other mish mash things. Hopefully you'll leave encouraged, pensive, or smiling at the simple things of life. Thank you for stopping by and hope you'll find some interesting posts to read!

  1. Esther, it sounds like a very special and unique time working with the lambs and probably not easy to leave them! Growing up in Yorkshire I loved seeing the lambs out in the fields during early Spring!

    1. Lambs are sweet animals and they are cute to see when they run and flock together. It’s been a great experience for our whole family to work with the lambs and to get a taste of farm life.

  2. It was a great learning experience for the kids and you and Chris as well. I’m sorry you have to end this project, but we’ll be looking forward to your next animal project … rabbits will be fun!

      1. I haven’t fully convinced Chris yet but we’re getting there. We have to first go to the rabbits’ meeting and see what it’s all about. We’re doing it for showmanship, so Elliot can learn how to present. It’s a process getting there due to all the responsibilities having a rabbit will entail for us.
But yes, so happy it’s spring and flowers are blooming!

      2. Well, in practicing for showmanship, Elliot will learn a lot about not only feeding a rabbit but grooming it as well to present it, so that is a start in the right direction. I’m rooting for a rabbit!
