My full and kooky life as a homeschooling mommy to 2 great kids, raising a child with HLHS (Hypolastic Left Heart Syndrome), coping with depression, following Jesus, and being much too camera happy.
Welcome to my blog! My name is Esther and I’m so happy you are here. I’m an avid nature photographer and a daydreaming thinker. My posts revolve around photos of nature’s beauty, homeschooling adventures with my 2 kids, sporadic reflections on my child’s heart condition, Bible reading reflections, gardening feats, and other mish mash things. Hopefully you’ll leave encouraged, pensive, or smiling at the simple things of life. Thank you for stopping by and hope you’ll find some interesting posts to read!
Wooden bridge into the garden Usually, this bridge is very busy with people taking photos, but we didn’t have to wait long for this visit. The gift shop sold out of koi food. They only sell 20 packets a day to monitor their diet. Tip: come before 1 p.mSolo duck sunbathing. You can feed the koi by the rocks, on the walkway, in the top part of this photo. They get very close and sone will eat out of your hand. Shaded grass areaMust be newer koi. Smaller than others Baby fish
I was surprised when they told me about the fish food monitoring. The lady said they’ll eat all day if they can. I thought it was a clever way to maintain their diet.
This is nuts, but about a month ago, at another Japanese garden in San Jose, all the koi fish, about 50 of them, were stolen. Is that crazy or what?!
True! We need spaces for nature and quiet where people can be safe and quiet.
This is not a public garden though…you have to pay admission to get in. But having a public place like this would be wonderful. There is a public Japanese Friendship Garden and last month, 50 of their koi fish were stolen. Is that nuts or what?! https://abc7news.com/san-jose-koi-fish-stolen-sj-japanese-friendship-garden-missing-worth/13210458/
I agree with you Esther. This morning I got to the Park and someone had spray-painted gang graffiti and some real filth in several places on the walking path. In orange spray paint for goodness sake. I don’t use the restrooms at the Park but someone told me they had sprayed graffiti in both the men’s and women’s restrooms. I have no words for that. That is a sham about the koi fish. I had no idea they were that much money for each fish – who does such a thing? The story said they took a pump, so was it for their home pond? Crazy. We have koi fish at the Belle Isle Aquarium. I have not been there since 1973 when I did the 5K walk for March of Dimes. But each year they put them in indoor aquariums to overwinter them. So I don’t know how many they have, but every Fall they want volunteers to catch and scoop them out of the pond and bring them inside.

What a beautiful spot. I’d never considered the need to monitor fish food, but that makes sense, and they’ve developed a good way to do that!

I wonder if it was humans or herons who did the dastardly deed? (Or some other kind of ‘fisher,’ like raccoons.)

I wonder how they transported the koi. It must’ve been quite an endeavor. Whew…what the heck?!
Looks like a magical world
It is!
That’s a beautiful spot. Happy Sunday, Esther!
It’s a peaceful garden to go with the kids! Thank you, Jo!
Beautiful Esther – how nice and peaceful this venue is.
It’s a tranquil place to walk around and enjoy the beautiful garden.
We need places like this … the world is getting crazier by the day.
