I want a repeat of this picture, but Dart refuses to open his mouth this big anymore. When we first got him, I remember sitting in front of the tank waiting for him to yawn so I capture a face-front shot of him doing this. It turns out that this mouth movement could mean several things: yawning, dislodging something in their throats, being stressed or provoked, or cooling down.
He was skinny and short one year ago compared to now. That’s what a steady diet of gut-loaded crickets and plump mealworms coated in multivitamin and calcium powder will do.

Thank you, thank you!! He’s a part of the family and Ellis just crocheted him a green rug. We haven’t put him on there yet as we’re waiting for Elliot to be there when Dart lounges on his rug. lol. Elliot is away at church camp, and he’ll be upset that we didn’t wait for him.

Your comment got me laughing out loud! A jungle call?? Yep, he was a tiny fierce one a year ago, and now he’s just happily sauntering about in his terrarium. He’s obsessed with water these days…hanging out by his water bowl.
Yes, like Tarzan’s jungle call. 🙂 He was probably hollering for more treats which his obedient new owners were likely to hand over. Dart likes having water nearby after he drinks so he can have a quick face wash if need be.
We do cater to his whim…he’s a lucky gecko. lol
Maybe Dart likes to gaze at his reflection in the water. The reptile is obsessed with it these days. I think he may have been traumatized about water when we went on vacation. Although my neighbor fills his water regularly, it’s inevitable that it’ll evaporate because it’s in a small bowl. Since then, Dart has been exhibiting this behavior.
Yes, that makes sense. Is there a way you can use a water tube that will ensure there is always water going into the water dish or would you worry it would get bacteria in it?
The latter worry I have. We have a water dispensing dish, but Dart has no idea what it is. He looks at it and walks over and around it. Silly gecko!
Yes, that would be a concern. It was with our bird if we went away a few days to visit my grandmother. However, Joey would not eat or drink – he would wait ’til we came home. Not great but we always hoped if he got hungry or thirsty enough, he’d go for it.
I wonder why he will not open his mouth like that anymore??
