My full and kooky life as a homeschooling mommy to 2 great kids, raising a child with HLHS (Hypolastic Left Heart Syndrome), coping with depression, following Jesus, and being much too camera happy.

Same story…cyclic vomiting. We were discharged last Monday, and now we’re back.

It’s awful! The vomiting comes on furiously and it’s a terrible thing to go through, and as a parent to watch your kid in that much discomfort and pain is awful.
      Thank you!

I get something similar with migraines (but no trips to the hospital)… I live in dread that my daughters have inherited it from me and any day now they’ll get sick… hang in there lovely, sending lots of positive vibes to all of you. ๐Ÿ’œ

Migraines are terrible to deal with. I’m so sorry you get them too. Does it also cause vomiting for you?
I hope your daughters don’t develop migraines! I have migraines too and the doctor told me that it can be genetic. Why?!
Thank you for your well wishes. ๐Ÿ™‚ Take care.

My mother and grandmother both had them, and my husband’s mother had them too… it’s why I worry about the genetic inheritance – apparently it is a switch on a gene that is either turned on or off… but there is no guarantee that it will be “active” – so you can inherit the “predisposition” but if you’re a laid back person it won’t affect you… I get the vomiting and also the paralysis where I can’t walk or talk properly if the migraine is bad enough – it’s like I had a stroke. I used to be very fearful that I was failing my daughters, but they are teenagers now and have grown up to be resilient, independent and empathetic young ladies… my illness isn’t ideal… but it hasn’t “ruined” them the way I used to worry. Good luck to all of you – I read as often as I can! Linda xx

Oh my, you get awful and debilitating symptoms from it!! I would be scared of any triggers that might start an episode. I hope it’s not as frequent or severe for you.
Thank goodness you daughters are doing well and it hasn’t affected them. Praying that that continues; I can see why you would be worried, but maybe they didn’t get the genetic inheritance!
We almost had another episode on Saturday from too much activity and she was not eating well and breathing heavily. That’s a sign that something is off. My vigilance skyrocketed, but I couldn’t wait to see and wait, so i just had her take the 2 migraine medications as preventative measures. No incident! Thank the Lord.
Thank you for reading and I’m so glad that you shared a part of your story with me. I appreciate it. Esther

Thanks Esther – I used to worry about over-medicating, but I realized that migraine-pain is a bit like an ember… if you don’t put it out, it will eventually ignite; better to catch it sooner rather than later – Good luck! Linda xox

Your metaphor is accurate! A migraine episode can wipe you out, so take the medicine when you need it quickly. For Ellis, when we first sense a migraine coming, like from a headache or a throw up from a headache, she takes two different kinds of medicine within 30 minutes of that. She is now prescribed a nasal spray that is supposed to work more quickly than a tablet. She also take a daily prophylactic medicine to prevent a migraine. She was on one kind for 10 years and its effectiveness stopped. Doctors just switched it up about 3 weeks ago .We’ll see how it goes!
Take care and wishing you a migraine-free autumn. ๐Ÿ™‚ Hugs

The migraine-brain does eventually always seem to figure out the medication and work around it… then you change and start again… the nasal sprays are meant to be excellent because they bypass the stomach… we just can’t get them here in Australia. Best wishes to you all (and thanks for your, I appreciate it alot!), L xx

I hope you stay healthy!! We have good days and months too but I’ve noticed that when one episode happens that it occurs again soon after. It’s very nerve wracking.
