My full and kooky life as a homeschooling mommy to 2 great kids, raising a child with HLHS (Hypolastic Left Heart Syndrome), coping with depression, following Jesus, and being much too camera happy.

That’s a great picture of the kids, all smiles … that’s very cool that you got rid of the background diners to hone in on Elliot and Ellis using AI.

Thanks, Linda! It’s a new feature on the Android. With every software update, something new pops up, but it’s not often that it’s a good one like this.

      1. Linda Schaub Avatar

That’s a great feature Esther because you’d have to pay for editing software otherwise – very nice!

I was surprised they added it to the phone feature. We’ve been taking a lot of sticker filter selfies on Ellis’ phone instead of mine. My phone’s selfie feature just died after our Hawaii trip last October. Now the warranty is over, so I’ll just have to wait until we get a new phone next year. Oh well.
Guess what, Linda?! Ellis and I learned how to remove an object from Photoshop today. It’s gonna be a really slow process. Elliot will mess around with it too when he gets back from his youth retreat this Saturday. I’m trying to make photoshop a family learning thing. We’ll see how that pans out this year.

      3. Linda Schaub Avatar

That’s great that you ended up getting Photoshop – you said you thought you might. I think there are some tutorials on YouTube. I go there if I have to learn anything and I know Michaels posts their videos the day after an online class. You could probably find easy how-to/hint-type stuff there. That’s great! You are way more high tech than me, especially with the phones. I don’t do anything with mine – just keep it for an emergency which I hope I don’t need it (it is a Lively phone f/k/a Jitterbug). The phone I carry with me when I leave the house is a flip phone as it’s small as I carry other things on me as I never carry a purse anymore – everything in a fanny pack or in a vest with pockets in Wintertime.

      4. singlikewildflowers Avatar

I remember you saying you carried a flip phone, but do you also have a smart phone?
During the summer, do you carry a water bottle during your walks? I wish I could have minimal things to carry, but I got this and that. I used to wear a purse but that has changed into a small backpack; hands-free.

      5. Linda Schaub Avatar

I always have the flip phone on me, but yes I have a smartphone, but it is a Lively phone, formerly known as Jitterbug – that is considered a “senior phone”. It does take pictures and videos (I took videos before, than took them recently after the landscaping tear out was done and none came out – hmm, user error I am sure and I need to read the book or see if there’s a tutorial for the phone which is supposed to be simple for seniors).

The reason I got it is that it has an emergency button for a medical alert … I hope I don’t need it, but it puts me through to their switchboard and they contact someone (police/fire/ambulance) … also, you know I had a trust prepared for myself this year because I have no family, so in the case of an emergency, (hospital), they would contact the attorney who is my power of attorney (though I hope he answers better than his e-mails). 🙂 It also has Lyft drivers who are vetted, so in an emergency (or non-emergency), you contact Lively, they send a vetted Lyft driver to pick you up, you don’t handle payment, they charge your account on your monthly bill. It is good to have, but I leave the smartphone at home. I have a landline, but part of the reason I got this Lively phone is AT&T is planning to shut down all landlines by 2029. They keep raising my monthly bill ($15.00 the last few years) to get me to quit. I am the only one in the neighborhood and they say “copper is expensive – you should just quit the service” (that’s an AT&T rep that said that!) Now that I’m retired, I don’t really need a landline I guess, so I could get a regular smartphone that did more and keep it on me all the time … maybe when the flip phone is no more. I’ve had to get multiple flip phones the last five years as they were no longer supported – had to go to 4G then 5G. Even my car’s OnStar was 2G and they sunsetted it!

I use a fanny pack and carrying a purse seems odd to me. I took it to the attorney’s office and was afraid I’d lock myself out of the car as I usually have an extra set of keys in my fanny pack, plus the regular keys.

      6. singlikewildflowers Avatar

It’s great that it has an emergency button with all the other features in case of an emergency!! I think it might be good for you to get a smartphone for your next phone. It would be a big change to adjust to though!
I carry a backpack and when Ellis has to go to the hospital, I have a smaller backpack that I shove into my bigger one. Then, I don’t have to move things around and lose things. Last year I lost a credit card…never found. And then a few months later, I left the credit card at the gift shop and forgot all about it until I went to pick something up again and they handed it to me. Chris always tells me to put it back in my purse after using it so I don’t lose it like I do. But do I listen? Nope. And then I regret.

When my boss and I moved out of downtown, one mile down the road, sometimes I walked and I got a backpack rather than my tote bag I always used on the bus for years .. great as it is hands free. I should use it rather than a fanny pack which I stuff with extra keys, my regular keychain, phone and emergency contact info (attorney). You also have lots on your mind when you are at the hospital, so easy to be distracted.

      8. singlikewildflowers Avatar

Maybe a backpack might come in more handy for you and there’s more space to put things in an out without worrying of something spilling out. You see, I’m a worry wart too!!
By the way, I hooked up Ellis’ keyboard to my laptop because some letters decided to stop working…but she’s got this feature where it lights up every time I type. It’s like sensory overload. I must ask how to turn this light thing off. That was a digression but as I was typing, my hands just can’t get used to a new keyboard. lol.

      9. Linda Schaub Avatar

When I went to a wireless keyboard instead of using the laptop’s keyboard, it took forever to get used to the spacing. I love Logitech’s wireless keyboard and I feel like I go like the wind as the touch is so light. Yes, lighting up would drive me crazy as well!

      10. singlikewildflowers Avatar

Since I was typing and making so much noise, both kids commented on how loud it was. Ellis was surprised that she didn’t realize till now how loud it was in the past. My laptop keyboard is unreliable so I ordered one from Amazon. Now, the computer is working fine. lol. It just acts up when it feels like it.
Nice…wireless keyboard sounds convenient! I got one that Elliot has, which is a gaming keyboard and has a light touch. I won’t be gaming but it feels nice to use.

      11. Linda Schaub Avatar

Hmm – I wish I’d done that years ago. I was hunched over and sitting an awkward way and it caused frozen shoulder a while back. My mom had it and I knew the symptoms so I Googled around to find out what to do as Mom had PT for it for many weeks and we rented a TENS unit and did the packs at home when she was done, but it never abated, so I got the laptop riser and wireless keyboard. I should have a proper table, especially from all the years I was working in addition to all the hours I spent online. I use the kitchen table and a kitchen chair.

      12. singlikewildflowers Avatar

I use the kitchen table and chair too! Our kitchen table is versatile. lol. We had to replace it this summer with the older one we had…I used Clorox wipes on it and the wood got a sticky residue that I couldn’t remove. It was awful looking and then Ellis had carved animal and message drawings onto it. It wasn’t even a kitchen table…it was a long side desk that you could open up into a table and it had the metal hinge going through the center of the table. Yikes!
Sitting for long periods of time in front of the computer has its hazards on the physical body!

      13. Linda Schaub Avatar

It is the right height for me, but I know it is not ergonomically correct at all. When I get up from sitting for several hours, my knees are stiff. I feel like the woman in the Carol Burnett Show where she and Harvey Korman were old and sitting in their rocking chairs and she would be standing and tell him “start it up” and she’d sway back and forth to sit down and jump in it … it does not sound funny as I tell it, but it was a funny skit back in the day.

Cool 😎 what did you use to erase the background diners?
Happy New Year giggling children! 💫

    1. singlikewildflowers Avatar

It’s a feature that popped up on the camera after updating the Android. There’s a star symbol that you press on and then you can either draw or press down on an object to erase. You press the “star” again and then it’ll do its magic. It night work better if I had a pen. Ellis did the edit on this photo with her little finger and she was able to remove the top of a person’s head behind her.
Happy new year to you too!
