Here is another edit I made. It’s been helpful for me to edit and then post to reinforce my learning. It stresses me out to learn how to use new tools, but Chris reminds me that this is supposed to be a fun hobby; I’m trying to tell my stubborn brain the same thing.

Great work Esther! Keep at it… It is useful to make a list of the things you’d like to change in your typical photos, then go about finding out how to edit them, so you focus on learning the most useful tools to you.

You’re welcome! I find it’s much easier to learn new software by going to YouTube than trying to decipher the user documentation.
Agree! I’ve also learned that you need to find the right person on YouTube who presents the material at a comfortable pace. Some videos try to cram a load of information into a short amount of time and that makes my brain hurt!

Very nice Esther! I like that they call it the Lasso tool, as in “lasso that and get it out of the photo!” Yes, Chris is right, because if you step away from it sometimes, it is good to return with composure restored and a “fresh eye” but then again, you feel like you don’t want to lose momentum either sometimes on a project.
The unfamiliarity of the whole thing got to me in the first 2 weeks of January. I felt so behind in not knowing the interface, the tools, and not knowing how to navigate the tools for what I needed. Once my brain settled in with the new information, I have more confidence that I can tackle a little bit more than what I did yesterday, Let’s keep doing our thing: me, photoshop; you, French!
Yes! I had not done much more than practice with no new lessons for about four days, then I started using this Windows 11 laptop and a new keyboard and a newer version of Word than I used at work (I’ve been using Google Docs on the Windows 10 computer) … I have felt like I was in a haze these last few days. I spent a good deal of time working on the computer today, caught up with all the French words/phrases I had not studied – now 686 altogether since I started and am going to try and switch to some decluttering stuff tomorrow – maybe I will appreciate it more having strained my brain since Saturday when I started using this new laptop. You will learn a little every day too and that way it sticks with you better. Who knew after we finished school all those years ago, we’d be straining our brain to learn more new things.
Esther, I’ve been concerned about you with all the fires burning in the LA area. Hoping you are safe as my heart goes out to those who are not. When I was in second grade our home burned and we lost everything but what we were wearing and some clothing that my mother hand hung out to dry. Hi Fran, thank you for your concern and thoughtfulness! Fortunately, we live in northern California and all is calm here. All our family is in L.A., but they are out of harm’s way. I feel terrible for the people who lost their homes and the people who died. It’s so crazy how it just happened all of a sudden and this wildfire just got out of control.
Oh wow, what an awful and traumatic experience you and your family had of your home burning down and losing all possessions. It’s unimaginable but thankful that no lives were lost.

Thank you, Raj! You can buy the Photoshop program on Adobe website. After you get it, you can learn by watching YouTube tutorials. The ones by Dan Scott, he is a certified Photoshop teacher, are very helpful and easy to understand. There are other good ones but they go fast and it’s hard to keep up with all the steps and terminology.
