My full and kooky life as a homeschooling mommy to 2 great kids, raising a child with HLHS (Hypolastic Left Heart Syndrome), coping with depression, following Jesus, and being much too camera happy.
Welcome to my blog! My name is Esther and I’m so happy you are here. I’m an avid nature photographer and a daydreaming thinker. My posts revolve around photos of nature’s beauty, homeschooling adventures with my 2 kids, sporadic reflections on my child’s heart condition, Bible reading reflections, gardening feats, and other mish mash things. Hopefully you’ll leave encouraged, pensive, or smiling at the simple things of life. Thank you for stopping by and hope you’ll find some interesting posts to read!
Teddy chewed the colored straw to bits and only left the basket and role handle. It was funny to see the basket turned over in his cage the next morning.
We’re learning something new everyday! Today we learned that we have to commit to holding him when we pick him up. Even when he wiggles, we need to hold him and calm him down. He can pick up on our nervous energy.
That is interesting that Teddy could pick up on your nervous energy and might wiggle to make you set him back in his cage. So much to learn, but good thing you had your 4-H training, are dealing with a breeder to instruct you on everything and of course had Diamond to take care of as well.
Nice Idea for teddy treat. So sweet & pritty face looks. Happy Easter š°!

What type of treats are these, Esther? Are these some sort of shredded carrots or colored hay?
Yorkie loves sweet potato soft chewy sticks. I must ration only one in the morning until she eats her duckies vitamin kibbles. If she does she may have a second treat in the evening. She would prefer to just eat treats!
Orange Dreamsycle Teddy and Yorkie are about the same size. She weighs in between 3.8 to 4.2 pounds depending on how much she will eat. I have been weighing her daily for a few months trying to get her back up to 4.8 lbs. I have her illness controlled now, so Iām thrilled. She is a picky eater!
Thereās so much to learn about raising a pet rabbit!! I hope you are feeling better about it all.
Hope you have a good Good Friday and the happiest Easter Sunday!
Hi TD, this is a treat from a treat company for small animals called Oxbow. It’s a small basket filled with colored hay. Teddy didn’t take to it at the first try, but he must’ve gotten bored and nibbled on it. In one night, the colored hay was eaten and only the basket and rope handle remained.
Teddy is doing much better with us and he’s acclimated to his new environment. We spend a lot of time with him and give him many treats, which has helped him “like” us more. lol. But picking him up is still problematic and his nails are very sharp. So our 4-H friend is coming over this Tuesday to help is trim his nails and to teach us how to handle him. He needs a nail trimming every month, so wish us luck! I might have Chris told him and I’ll trim.
So grateful to hear that Yorkie is doing better and her illness is under control! That must’ve been so worrying for you and to get her to eat.
You are so right about how much there is to learn in raising a pet! It seems everyday we are learning something new and falling in love with a little fluffball and a little gecko. Dart has been wonderful in eating well and pooping regularly. I think the roaches are making him regular.
Hope you had a wonderful Easter weekend!

Ah, colored hay! Yes, we are always learning and changing with our lovely pets!! It is wonderful that you have a knowledgeable friend who is able to go to your home to train you all as special show rabbit care providers!! lol š
At first, I didn’t think it was edible, but Teddy proved otherwise.
We are learning everyday and it’s less frustrating than when we first started. But his little nails are so fierce. We’ve been mauled and wounded.

I wonder if veterinarians declaw pet show rabbits like a veterinarian would declaw a domestic indoor pet cat? When I had a cat, I had the veterinarian declaw him when he was a kitten. Trying to clip a rabbitās sharp nails monthly might be really difficult! I have my veterinarian clip Yorkieās nails once a year.
If Teddy were declawed, he’d be disqualified from the show. The rules are pretty strict…they can’t be spayed or neutered either.
It’ll be interesting to see how the nail clipping goes. I think we may have to trim his nails monthly, because they are sharp. He scratched my over my shirt yesterday and it drew blood on my belly. Kids got scratched on their arms and legs too.
Lucky that Yorkie gets her nails clipped only once a year.

Yorkieās nails are not sharp but do need trimming from growth similar to people. Walking her on pavement helps buff. She does a lot of daily licking her paws to groom herself.
I did wonder about the rules for show rabbits. Indeed the rules should be strict to keep the breeds pure and for judge competition! This is such an interesting adventure that you have chosen. I wonder if the purpose for taking on the challenge is also about your own desire to engage in something that interests you (not just the kids schooling)?
At one time in my life I wanted to become a purebred Labrador Retriever breeder and run the business. I have always been so successful with dogs. But the venture requires a lot of capital and that dream never realized for me. The closest that I came was owning a part time pet sitting business in my home. At one time I had 6 dogs visiting for a week! I felt like a mother duck with her chicks following me all day! Iāve been very happy with all my dogs throughout my life.
I really hope you will enjoy this rabbit adventure and I hope to learn more through your posts!ā£ļø

I like that angle of the basket and Teddy
Thank you! I had my camera low to get a full shot of Teddy’s body. Thank you for mentioning that.

What a sweet face and a cute idea for a treat.
It was on Amazon! He didn’t like it much at first, but then he demolished it. He likes straw balls and his dried papaya cubes.
He’s settling right on in isn’t he? That’s good!
He’s doing great! Today he finally let me hold him although it wasn’t for long.
That’s great – you’ve had plenty of practice taking care of Diamond, so it should work out well!
