My full and kooky life as a homeschooling mommy to 2 great kids, raising a child with HLHS (Hypolastic Left Heart Syndrome), coping with depression, following Jesus, and being much too camera happy.
Welcome to my blog! My name is Esther and I’m so happy you are here. I’m an avid nature photographer and a daydreaming thinker. My posts revolve around photos of nature’s beauty, homeschooling adventures with my 2 kids, sporadic reflections on my child’s heart condition, Bible reading reflections, gardening feats, and other mish mash things. Hopefully you’ll leave encouraged, pensive, or smiling at the simple things of life. Thank you for stopping by and hope you’ll find some interesting posts to read!
We were at a place where the turtles congregate! You can’t get too close to a turtle and have to maintain a distance of 10 feet since they are a protected species, but they come very close.
It was a lot of fun and an unexpected activity that Chris planned into our vacation the day before the snorkeling. Maybe that’s why I forgot that everyone should take Benadryl before going out on the boat. Surprisingly, Ellis and I did the best while the guys suffered from the boat rides.
How fun to see you guys here – that a great group pic, on the boat and in the water. How nice you had the person who took you out in the boat able to take the photos. Very cool pics of all the underwater creatures – that’s a big turtle!
We had not planned on going snorkeling, but Chris thought it would be a good experience for the kids. The only time I snorkeled was on our honeymoon 19 years ago.
Oh boy, Chris and Elliot got sea sick and were both ready to hurl on the boat ride back. Can you believe that Ellis and I were fine?! I did not even think that we would get sea sick, so didn’t give anyone Benadryl.
They had a separate person taking pictures for an extra fee. I almost said “no” at first, but it’s rare to be able to take a good photo with the fam in this situation. The photographer had a gopro and she would dive down deep with extra long fins to take those pics…there’s one of us all looking down into the water and holding hands.
I wondered how you had the turtle pic amongst the fish … that was a very cool picture. I see – I thought it would be the boat operator and that was part of his job/gig. That’s funny (not to mention great) that you and Ellis did not get seasick, but the “manly” guys did. I went snorkeling with family friends when I visited them in Puerto Rico. We were in fairly shallow water since I don’t know how to swim.
Our next snorkeling is going to be in shallow water. I think that’s less stressful. The guys were feeling awful on the boat ride back along with another gal from our snorkeling group. The crew gave them ginger candy, which helped a bit.
There was no way I could take that turtle pic! I was curious about gopro’s after that activity and saw the one that Costco is selling now. But it is too compact and the screen small. I would have to squint my eyes to see.
I only went in shallow water – I don’t know how to swim. But there were a lot of tiny fish there and with the goggles we could see everything. The GoPros are cool in that you can strap them on your waist, or your head or put them underwater without ruining them. I wondered how you got the turtle pic when I saw the post. Everything is so small. The other day when the different techs remoted into my laptop, the chat session while they were remoting in was so tiny it was a blur … I found a way to increase the font size, so I increase it as much as it could go. The tech probably thought “what did this woman do with this message?”

There was no way I could have taken that turtle photo! We couldn’t believe the assortment of fish we saw while snorkeling.
It is amazing they took it so close up and that turtle was not far from you – hopefully not a snapping turtle!
