My full and kooky life as a homeschooling mommy to 2 great kids, raising a child with HLHS (Hypolastic Left Heart Syndrome), coping with depression, following Jesus, and being much too camera happy.
Welcome to my blog! My name is Esther and I’m so happy you are here. I’m an avid nature photographer and a daydreaming thinker. My posts revolve around photos of nature’s beauty, homeschooling adventures with my 2 kids, sporadic reflections on my child’s heart condition, Bible reading reflections, gardening feats, and other mish mash things. Hopefully you’ll leave encouraged, pensive, or smiling at the simple things of life. Thank you for stopping by and hope you’ll find some interesting posts to read!
We went to this temple on our first trip to Hawaii and had fond memories of it. It was something the kids wanted to do again, and this place also has large numbers of koi that know that humans will feed them. They swarm. You can buy a small plastic bag of pellets for $2.
Kids enjoyed it a lot, but poor Elliot got a about 10 mosquito bites on his leg that are bigger than a normal one. He’s always had that kind of reaction to mosquito bites…we got calamime spray and fresh aloe vera.
I wonder if Elliot is allergic to something in a mosquito’s bite? I think it is nice with the birds landing on you and it would be fun to feed the koi as well – it sounds like a peaceful place to visit.
He’s allergic to the histamine. Last week was quite a busy week with the coughing and mosquito bite allergy and urgent care for me on Saturday. Yikes! Hawaii was good but then the transition back was rough.
It was a lot of fun!! This temple has large numbers of koi and they are fun to feed too. They literally swarm over each other to get the food and you see their “o” shaped mouths.
Thank you! We are back home now and recovering from a week of activities.
Bird feeding is lots of fun at this temple…they are not afraid to approach people for food.
So beautiful photos for feeding the birds. Wonderful enjoy the fun vacation. All those birds not only feed from your hand, but also sit on your arms. So sweet smile both kid 💗.

Thank u!
I love the St. Francis of Assisi poses!
I didn’t think of that…thank you for that reference!!
You’re welcome!
How fun that the birds will come right up to them! 🙂
No hesitation at all! Yes, it is a lot of fun since this is not a normal thing to do and birds will usually scatter if you approach.
That’s so fun!
It’s a lot of fun to feed and to watch! These birds don’t hesitate to approach people and ask for food, even hopping onto legs and shoes.
How cool is that having all those birds not only feed from your hand, but also sit on your arms, or in the case of Elliot, your knee. 🙂

You’re right – coming back to reality and bringing back unwanted baggage with you!
