My full and kooky life as a homeschooling mommy to 2 great kids, raising a child with HLHS (Hypolastic Left Heart Syndrome), coping with depression, following Jesus, and being much too camera happy.
Welcome to my blog! My name is Esther and I’m so happy you are here. I’m an avid nature photographer and a daydreaming thinker. My posts revolve around photos of nature’s beauty, homeschooling adventures with my 2 kids, sporadic reflections on my child’s heart condition, Bible reading reflections, gardening feats, and other mish mash things. Hopefully you’ll leave encouraged, pensive, or smiling at the simple things of life. Thank you for stopping by and hope you’ll find some interesting posts to read!
My neighbor gifted me this cactus plant last spring. It came in a small pot, which it outgrew, so I repotted it to this larger one. I didn’t have big hopes that it would survive but wished for the best. It stayed dormant with just the leaves throughout all these months. This morning I took a closer look and discovered these red little bulbs! It survived my black thumb. I couldn’t be happier with this outcome. Growth happens even in its dormant phase.
It looked rather like a Christmas cactus to me, so I consulted my apps, and they said it’s a spring or Easter cactus: Rhipsalidopsis gaertneri. If that’s indeed what it is, this is a good article about it. Once those buds turn into blooms, they should confirm the identity.
Oh, thank you for checking!! It’ll be great fun to see the buds turn into blooms. I gave up hope with this succulent but kept it around wishful thinking that maybe it’ll root and do its magic. It certainly survived.

Nice!
Thank you! I can’t wait to see how it will continue to grow and flower.
You’re welcome!
That’s great – now don’t you feel better knowing your thumb matches the color of the succulent?
Ahhhh, you are too kind!!
the joy is felt! how great that this plant made it
I felt so much joy too! It was a surprise to see that it made it through the tough winter cold.
Succulents are pretty resilient. Well done, Esther xx
Thank you! I give the credit to the succulent for being so resilient and sticking through all the rain and cold weather.
Wonderful! It’s budding just in time for spring!
I couldn’t believe it. I don’t have a green thumb to make things grow and to rehabilitate plants but this one was gracious with me. lol
It’s looking pretty out there! Flowers are about to bloom and trees are budding.
