New large print Bible

One new thing I’ve been doing is memorizing scripture. I got a new large print Bible, with journaling features and scripture verses to color. Since it’s large print, the Bible is much thicker and heavier than the regular ones. But I was shocked to see the size difference when it first arrived in the mail. It’s not one you can casually carry in your bag; it requires its own designated space. Okay, maybe that’s an exaggeration, but really, it is heavy as a thick textbook.

Check out the size difference between these two versions.
Large print vs. Regular print

It’s enjoyable to color the verses and to try to memorize it in the process. But there’s that doubt in my mind often wondering what I get out of reading the Bible, and just me asking that question makes me feel like a hypocrite. Why does it always have to be about gaining something?!

Yet I know that it is the living word of God and that I need to meditate on it everyday. He’s shown me time and time again that He is faithful and worthy; and yet my faith shamefully flip flops like this asking what good plan He has for me. That’s not to say I don’t believe Him because I do. I’m currently going through a faith building process that God is extraordinary in the mundane. He shows up without fail! I just need to notice.

  1. Keep us posted on how it goes! I decided new years of 2021 to start memorizing scripture and I’ve really enjoyed it! I started with Psalm 1. What are you starting with? I just finished memorizing Revelation 4 and haven’t chosen my next chapter yet. It can be hard to get started but it’s a rewarding process.

    1. Wow, you are doing so good! That’s great to start with Psalm 1. I just memorized Psalm 46 and some verses in Ecclesiastes and one in Nahum. But if you asked me randomly, I’d probably get it all jumbled up. Where in Psalms are you?
Coloring helps me to slow down and to think about the verse. I’m enjoying this process.

  2. That’s a beautiful Bible Esther. My grandmother bought me a family Bible and it is huge, probably 5-6 pounds. It has room to record family members’ names, significant days … well I’m the last of the line.

    1. I wonder how much my Bible weighs. Yours sound heavier! That’s special to have one with all the family records and that your grandmother gifted it to you. I don’t think it matters if you’re the last of the line…reading and learning from it would make your grandmother proud that you used it for your spiritual journey!!

      1. Yes, she would be very pleased Esther. I have to measure the size of it – it is about the size of a telephone book but I’m not sure how many inches for the pages.
