Ball python snake at Petco

Since we’re getting a leopard gecko soon, we’ve been making MANY trips to Petco and Petsmart lately. Today, we had to return a screen lid that was about 6 inches too long, and while wandering around the stores, we found this Ball python snake.

Usually, the pet store snakes are thin and miniature: coiled up in a resting position and can never see their faces. This python was energetic and curious, but taking one home would be a big commitment for those who get easily queasy, like myself. These guys eat mice, so you need to buy them frozen at the store and probably keep them frozen in your freezer till needed. Ack!

I can only do lizards where they eat live crickets and frozen dried mealworms. That I can handle, but that’s my limit.

You don’t see me.
Now ya’ do.

    1. I hear you, Cindy! I’m not sure where these pet stores get their reptiles and they must feel very stuffy and unnatural in those small enclosures! The hope is that he gets adopted into a loving home and gets well taken care of.
But there’s nothing like being truly free and in their wild natural habitat!

  1. Pretty, but would freak me out … me who had a centipede come up the stoop and into the living room and now won’t go in the living room. Did your set-up and accessories arrive from Amazon so you can bring your new baby home?

    1. I’d freak out too, but it would be a fun pet to have. There was a reptile expo in San Jose a couple of weekends ago, and yesterday at the pet shop, a kid and his dad came in to buy some treats for its new ball python.
Yea, centipedes would be scary!! Did it find its way out of your home?
The last accessory arrived yesterday, and we went and got the leopard gecko! Kids were happy as ever and so eager to help. Don’t know how long this eagerness will last, but I like it. lol
I’m still getting used to it and haven’t touched it yet. Elliot does all of that. We now have a critter case for crickets too.. The operation expands as we speak. lol. I’ll post more about it soon.

      1. I think I mentioned to you my neighbor growing up who had piranhas in a big tank and he’d feed them raw hamburger. We kids would go over to watch them at feeding time. All the kids hung around together as we were all the same age at the time, 7-8-9 years old. So of the two boys’ father had the piranhas. Scary.

I have to look at your post. I was caught up but haven’t gone to Reader tonight. I know the lizards go fast. I visited friends of the family in Puerto Rico and I don’t remember if they were lizards or geckos that lived in big bushes near their apartments – they would run out and sun themselves, then freak out when they saw humans and scurry back to the bush.

I found a big, fat centipede in the bathtub the next day but I’m not sure if it was the same one – all the rain we’ve had – ugh. I drowned it – big and brave when it’s in the bathtub, but anywhere else, not so brave.

I’d be scared to hold it – you will be brave. Will you let it run around on the loose? Live crickets – do they chirp?
