My full and kooky life as a homeschooling mommy to 2 great kids, raising a child with HLHS (Hypolastic Left Heart Syndrome), coping with depression, following Jesus, and being much too camera happy.

I love how Ellis is always in my vicinity when I take pictures, either hanging on my neck, arms around my shoulders, or next me within arm’s reach. She’s my shadow. In about two weeks, her stomach tube is getting removed after 9 years, and that’s a big step for us. We’ve been holding onto the the g-tube in case she needs it for hydration or food if she gets ill. But it hasn’t been used for months, and now it seems unnecessary. Also, she’s been getting self conscious about it showing through her shirts, and on vacation, she almost opted to wear a bigger rash guard top. She opted out of that after we decided that this would be last “hurrah” for having the stomach feeding tube and celebrating that its days are numbered. Moving onto a new chapter! My girl is growing up.

It’s been something on our minds since last summer. Since she’s older now and can take meds by mouth, the g-tube is a security measure for us. Even when she gets dehydrated, I can’t hydrate her enough to prevent a hospital visit. So out it comes!! It’s a short outpatient procedure. Take medicine beforehand to show down production of stomach acid and maybe stitches. We’ll have to see how it goes when it’s taken out. Yikes! I promised her pokemon cards.

That’s good news that it’s a short outpatient procedure as well. When Ellis weathered the Covid family outbreak better than anyone else in the family, you had confidence to do this procedure too. Getting bigger and stronger (and an age in double digits too). Hugs!
