My full and kooky life as a homeschooling mommy to 2 great kids, raising a child with HLHS (Hypolastic Left Heart Syndrome), coping with depression, following Jesus, and being much too camera happy.

November 14, Tuesday: Last night at the hospital…able to hold down fluids, eat a popsicle, and starting to feel hungry. Told that if the night went smoothly we could get discharged Wednesday morning. We both had a good sleep and woke up ready to go home.
November 15, Wednesday morning. Disconnected and free from the beeping alarms!

First day at the hospital

It’s been the craziest couple of weeks with both grandmas getting surgeries, Ellis getting her g-tube removed, and then the whole cyclic vomiting adventure. We felt emotionally, physically, and spiritually pressed on all sides, but we made it through and have another great story of God’s mercy to tell. This was the longest cyclic vomiting episode Ellis had and when she was going on day 7 without any food but just IV fluids, I lost my marbles and had a tearful meltdown.

When Ellis had that horrible side effect to one of the medications, she told me the next day that she “mentally freaked out” in the middle of it. She thought that it was going to be the “end” for her that night. Ugh. It’ll be a night to remember and now we know which medicine to avoid next time. My mind has been frazzled and everything seems to blue into one big picture. It may take a lot of sleep and rest to get myself back on track.

Thank you everyone for rallying with encouragement and prayers while we were in the hospital! So appreciate each one of my readers and the kind comments we received. I’ll reply to your comments soon, but I may need a few days! Thank you for understanding and stay well this autumn season!! Much love, Esther ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you, Linda! You are so right…it’s an early Thanksgiving blessing. I’m wondering why Ellis ends up in the hospital these fall months when she does get hospitalized. The first clusters of getting cyclic vomiting happened around Thanksgiving in 2018. I remember picking up our pre-made Thanksgiving meal with her after discharge. That time I think she was hospitalized 3 times in a month; this is when they didn’t know it was cyclic vomiting and they were running all kinds of tests. I had a mental breakdown and depression relapse the following January. yowzers!
      Have a great weekend, Linda!!

Well I am glad they have pinpointed the problem and know what medicines or treatments NOT to give Ellis going forward. I hope this is the last Fall episode of cyclic vomiting for Ellis and all illness for the whole extended family on both sides does not rear its ugly head again. This was a brutal year for you all.

      2. singlikewildflowers Avatar

Oh yikes, Linda! It’s been a brutal year with this and that. Somehow the grave of God has carried us through the challenges, like Covid for the whole family. Ack!!
Who would’ve thought that a cyclic vomiting episode could last that long? Usually, it lasts a few days and passes. I’m better armed with preventative measures and how to treat it once the migraine hits. Hopefully the next time I can identify it and treat it at home before it goes crazy wild.

      3. Linda Schaub Avatar

I hope so too – so much you have had to learn about Ellis’ intermittent issues and now, being better armed is good – tackle it quickly.

Thank you, TD! It’s so good to be back and to be in the comfort of our home and family. Darling Dart is feeling all out of sorts, it seems, so I have him a warm soak yesterday and have him lots of attention. This weekend, we’ll replenish his live insect food supply with fresh ones. Humans are doing good!
Thank you for journeying with you on this adventure! Your comments have been so encouraging.
