Alfalfa hay was a hit with the lambs today! For weeks, they’ve been skittish and stay far away from us, where even the sounds of grass crunching from our footsteps and approaching figure will make them run the opposite direction. from people,. Until today!
Most of the lambs were arm’s length away from us when we walked in the pasture with alfalfa hay. Half of them approached us and the other half loafed around shading under the tent. I think this meant that they felt comfortable enough to stay separated as a flock.
It was wonderful to finally get closer to the lambs! Their pelt is considered medium grade wool and it wasn’t as soft as we imagined. We were over the moon.

Nice you have finally interacted with them and got to pet them! I would have thought they were soft and fluffy so that is a surprise to me to find out they are not.
They are becoming more friendly and approachable! However, they are not willing to let you come up to them and pet their backs. Having an arm full of alfalfa hay helps a lot!
I’ll post about last weekend’s interaction with them where we actually got to pet them and hold them as we tried to flip a lamb. When petting a lamb, I noticed that only the top tips of the fur is coarse but it gets soft as you go closer to their skin. Aww, they are so sweet to hold!!
I will look forward to seeing that post Esther – I was surprised to read that in the beginning of your series on the lambs, that they were not soft and cuddly!
