sing like wildflowers

My full and kooky life as a homeschooling mommy to 2 great kids, raising a child with HLHS (Hypolastic Left Heart Syndrome), coping with depression, following Jesus, and being much too camera happy.

We’d love to bring this cute gecko home with us if we had more space. But look at this sweet smile: it was hard to resist!

Maybe ask Dart first if he wants a sibling. 🙂

He politely declines and wishes to have all the attention to himself! Diamond is visiting us this week and that’s been fun for us. We let her free roam in the entryway hallway and she hangs out doing binkies and napping under some lawn chairs.

I am sure Dart would be insanely jealous of another gecko. Is it time for his one-year anniversary of joining the Suhs? A small celebration? I had to Google “binkies”. 🙂 I thought of you and the kids because I follow a woman on Facebook who is very active with animal shelters. She is the woman who holds the annual Butterfly Garden Walk in her backyard, a perennial and Koi pond paradise. I haven’t attendd since COVID, but the “entrance fees” are items for local shelters (treats/toys, even paper plates and paper towels). Anyway … she was posting about a beautiful large flop-eared bunny that needed a home and asking if any of her followers could help out. Poor bunny, called “Captain Carrot” was abandoned by its owners, who moved and left him behind.

Even if we got another gecko, Dart would not be live with it. They get territorial and will kill. We would need another tank and whole setup, and that would be extra work for us. So it’s a no, but we always have to ooh and ahh over the cute geckos at PetSmart.
Oh man, poor “Captain Carrot.” I hope someone adopted him. Rabbits are very calming and mellow to have as pets. Today we had Diamond try coming up the steps, although going down was harder and she almost tumbled. Elliot held up a cardboard poster to help Diamond come down each step carefully. Going up was fine but coming down was another issue. lol
We got Dart a new wooden bridge for his anniversary/birthday!

I didn’t know that about geckos being territorial, but even introducing another pet in the house (even a human baby) raises the ire of the original pet. Twice as much work is not a good idea … I agree. I’m glad you got an anniversary/birthday gift … a year already!

I checked and no comments on whether Captain Carrot got a “furever” home or not. They said he was very friendly, liked to cuddle and snuggle with the people interacting with him at the shelter. That’s terrible he was abandoned. Diamond has some added excitement when you take care of her!

Oh, I wish Diamond was a snuggle bunny, but you can’t pick her up. She will only come close to get petted and sit next to you. We pick her up arms from behind to put her back into her hutch at night, and she will hesitate to get back in. She just hangs her hangs and drags her feet.
        One more week with us.

She is enjoying her freedom at least. Do her owners keep her out of the hutch and having the run of the house? She is loving all the attention she gets there. Her family is on an extended vacation then. She is lucky to have some nice and willing neighbors to take care of her.

Diamond got a lettuce treat today, so I hope her tummy doesn’t do anything crazy. They went away for the week, but we decided to keep her for another week since my kiddos enjoy having her around.
She gets some free roam time at her home but it must get crazy since they also have a dog.

That’s nice you got to keep Diamond another week for the kids. I hope she is okay too post-lettuce. I remember taking baby carrots to the Park for the bunnies when I first began walking there. They didn’t eat them – I thought “well don’t all bunnies love carrots?” They love clover at the Park. I imagine Diamond is scared of the dog (unless it is a chihuahua).

That’s odd but maybe some rabbits have a preference for leafy greens than carrots. Diamond will only eat the leafy part of the romaine lettuce and leave the middle stem part. She did many binkies and even jumped over a box to get into the office. lol.

Diamond is expanding her horizons. 🙂 It’s nice having a little furry friend around. I am sure Dart notices Diamond, craning his neck to see what is distracting his owners so much.

This gecko was relaxed and happy in that cave!
