Hi all, I haven’t been active nor consistent on my blog for the past couple of weeks. We were starting to enjoy the full recovery of Elliot’s pneumonia last week, but then I got awfully sick with a throbbing headache, phlegmy coughs, and a body ache. Without hesitation, I went the the doctor the next day for a check up and she gave me the same kind of antibiotics that Elliot took recently. It was days of wretched coughing, stress incontinence from the freakish coughs, and all that happy stuff that comes along with a bug.
I was beginning to feel better when Ellis started complaining of nausea and headaches on Sunday. Our whole family went into a collective panic attack and all attention was focused on her. She took the whole slew of migraine medication in case it was the onset of another cyclic vomiting episode, but thankfully that does not seem to be the case. She’s running a low grade fever, no appetite, and has a hacking cough. Tomorrow, we are going to the pediatrician again to get checked out. Elliot’s pneumonia required an ER visit, one night hospitalization, and 5 pediatrician visits. This mama is officially pooped.
Ellis had a heart clinic visit and an exercise test at the heart center today, but I had to reschedule. Next week, I go in for a consult with the new cardiologist Ellis’ heart management, and this time it’s not the regular single ventricle program. I haven’t mentioned it before because our whole family has been in denial and major fear of what’s to come, but it’s a heart failure clinic. We’ll see what the doctor has to share with us about the MRI results and the future of a heart transplant. Dear Lord, help us walk through this bravely and to glorify you in the process. Although we may not show it, we are shaking in our boots.

Thank you for your kind thoughts! It’s been a rough summer finding out about her heart condition and dealing with the uncertainty of the future But we are learning more about it and the cardiology team is helping us with each step and vigilantly looking out for any alarming symptoms before they come as a surprise.

Oh no – I hoped you would not come down with anything as you were taking such good care of Elliot and ensuring Ellis didn’t get pneumonia in the process … it took its toll on you. I am sad so many medical issues are plaguing your family and always at the same time. You cannot catch a break. Plus always in the background are Ellis’ heart issues. Tonight, scrolling down to find where I left off yesterday, I see the follow-up to this post and that Ellis is back in the hospital again.
