Hi everyone, it’s been a while since I’ve written a post. Our schedule has been busting at the seams with state testing for homeschoolers, regular homeschooling, a new 4-H project where both kids are signed up as teachers in a local public school teaching about worm compost to lower elementary kids , baking, celebrating Ellis’ 12th birthday, and copious napping to keep up with it all. Today, I had to say “no” to the pasture lamb project although we had initially planned on it. The lambs arrive this Sunday and work needs to be done, but I knew that we’d all regret adding another thing to our schedule.
Thankfully, Ellis has been well, so we’ve been keeping up with all of our activities. There hasn’t been any scares or last minute trips to the pediatrician. Next month, her weekly therapy will be more consistent and Elliot will get his braces taken off!
Ok, I digress! Now for our special news!!! Chris finally said “yes” 3 weeks ago, so we went right to work finding the right one.
It’s round, small, brown, has 4 thumpers, and 2 airplane ears…A 4-month old Holland Lop!

He’s going to be our showmanship bunny for 4-H! Both kids will have to learn how to handle and present him to a judge. We pick him up next week at the ranch where one of our rabbit expert friends will bring him from the breeders.

It’s been quite a scheduling headache since his cage is coming from SoCal and the shipment is delayed. So this little guy would have stayed at the 4-H ranch until the first week of May, but I was told we could borrow a cage and keep him at home. If he had stayed the ranch, the first step would be to quarantine him for 2 weeks, and we’d have had to drive about 30 minutes few times a week to feed him and clean his cage. Overall, I spent 2 days working out the scheduling kinks and ordering supplies.
We’ll see how the bunny adventure goes for us! I hope you’ll join us and next week when we pick him up, I’ll post more pictures.

So fun 🤩
Can’t wait to hear what you name him! 🐰
Thank you! We’re excited too. Name will be coming soon. 🙂
It’s good to meet you, Bunny!
Yay! He will be happy to make his appearance on my blog soon. 🙂
We haven’t met him yet…that’s the picture the breeder sent us.
I’ve been meaning to ask. How is Dart doing these days?
We haven’t posted any pictures of Dart in a while, but he is doing great! He grew longer to about 8 inches and he has been sleeping a bunch near his heater and thankfully, pooping regularly. The other day the weather got warmer, so we turned off his heater in case he overheats. Last weekend, he got a special treat of Dubia Roaches and crickets. Thank you for asking! He’ll be happy to hear that he’s been asked about.
I’m very glad to hear that Dart is alive and well and enjoying life!
He’s doing great! Your comment inspired me to take a pic of him, which I haven’t done lately, and post yesterday. Thank you, Liz
You’re welcome, Esther!
I’m a bit confused. Is this bunny a new home pet that your family owns?
Oh, sorry for the confusion in my writing. He will be our new bunny pet, but he is still at the breeder’s place. We will get him this week.
There is a rabbit barn at the 4-H ranch that we could leave him at while we learn how to do the showmanship steps, but we are too eager to have him home. We were going to borrow a cage in the meantime while his own cage gets delivered…the estimated delivery time was broad like 1-4 weeks. Well, we just got a notification that it will be delivered next Tuesday. The whole scheduling ordeal was bit of a headache.
So this little guy will be with us hopefully by next week!
That certainly clears up my confusion. Esther, your family continues to blossom. Much love. 😘
Glad to hear that it’s cleared up the confusion! He’s coming home this Thursday.
Have a great start to the new week and please give our love to Lucy. 🙂
Thursday is in three days! Ready or not… you have a new pet to take care of!! I’m hoping that it will be everything that you hoped for!!!
Thank you. Our week has started off well. I made arrangements for a young strong man to rake my oak leaves and the oak’s flowers that have fallen. I’m highly allergic and want to avoid a sinus infection and vertigo. He came about 2 months ago and did 8 bags of oak leaves. So I asked him again. And he said yes that he would help. I’m thrilled.
Yorkie and I have been entertained by the new hummingbirds migrating. I have 4 feeders on my front porch we can watch them from inside in the master suite and great retreat. It brings me lots of happiness to my day. I’m glad that winter is over. I don’t like the cold months.
Thursday is tomorrow! We are looking forward to picking him up. There’s been a lot of prep work in getting our home ready for our new family member; building the cage, clearing up the area, donating stuff we found in that area, picking up the litter and hay.
I’m glad to hear that you have help with the oak leaves! I can imagine how much time and energy it would take to rake up all those leaves by yourself and then to have allergy along with it.
Hummingbirds are so lovely to watch! Happy to hear that you and Yorkie are enjoying this venture together.
Iam so sorry . I haven’t get notifications on my email then I late Read you post. It’s beautiful & funny.
He looks good, Esther! I looked up Holland Hop. It seems like he’s a miniture rabbit. What’s 4H?
Thank you, Miriam! He’s a small breed and the maximum weight for this breed of rabbit is 4 pounds. I have no idea how small he is right now since he’s only 4 months old.
4-H is a national youth leadership program that started over a 100 years ago in the U.S. for rural farmers to learn about new farming technology. The older generation didn’t take too well to applying new innovation while the youth were more willing to learn and introduce those technologies into their farming industries. Now it’s a nationwide youth leadership program.
Your granddaughters may enjoy 4-H in their country. They will be Clovers, which is the age range from 5-9. There’s a whole bunch of projects they can engage in!
Thank you for the information, Esther. 4H sounds familia. I might have heard about it 30 years ago. I’ll look into it and talk with my daughter about it.
You’re welcome! It’s a great program for children and youth. It keeps us busy with fun and educational things to do.
It’s a wonderful family project.
awww such a cute little bunny! A fun project, too. 🙂
Thank you! Yes, we’re excited to embark on this rabbit project. It’ll be a good experience for the kids.
Hoppity happy times 🤗💛
For sure! We’re so excited to finally get a furry pet.
The bunny is so cute! Looking forward to reading all about the experience. 😊
Thank you! He’ll be appearing on my blog soon.
What a cutie pie, this new addition to the Suh family! I know you will come up with a fun name and Dart is worried now, he is second banana. 🙂
Thank you! We were smitten with him when we saw his picture. We’ll meet him this week.
Oh yikes, poor Dart may feel a little left out but he still gets lots of love. Today we just treated him to Dunia Roaches, which is an indulgent treat for a gecko. lol
Ha ha – I can imagine Dart thinking “Dunia Roaches – what did I do to deserve this? I hope they aren’t REALLY getting that rabbit because they like Diamond so much. I will just play the ‘I am a gecko with wounded feelings’ card and make them feel guilty.”
We actually saw him drinking water the other day! That rarely happens, so maybe he’s trying to woo us with his healthy behavior. But it doesn’t matter, we still love him!
Ha ha – he wants to stay hydrated to avoid another shed perhaps? Yes, he is the first pet and will remained loved and cherished.
He hasn’t been shedding as much as the first year, but he sheds once in a while. We can tell when he gets pale and overly white like he’s wearing a white shroud over his skin.
Yes, he is our first pet and much loved!
Is this because he has reached his full size now? I remember you said in a post a while back, that you could tell how much he had grown from the skinny gecko he once was. 🙂 Yes, your first pet is always special and dear to your heart!
Not sure if that is his full size! We’ll see if he grows longer, but right now he’s happy as he is. Thankfully, he’s pooping regularly and eating well. Whew…
There’s always something going on … but they are so worth it!
You’re right! Full of adventures. lol
It keeps you young!
And tired!
Ha ha 🙂
Love!
Thank you!
What an absolute cutie! I’m glad all the details of getting him (her?) to you have been worked out; the kids are going to have a great time learning how to show, not to mention just having fun with the critter. I was glad to see the note about Dart getting his treat, too. When a new ‘baby’ comes home, the ‘siblings’ always need a little extra attention!
Thank you! We are thrilled to finally get out first furry pet. As much as we love Dart, it’s hard to cuddle a gecko and hang out with him as he’s always on the move and ready to escape. Yep, he’s loving his roaches and after he ate those, he took a long nap in his splooting position by the heater.
Kids shied away from showmanship but the deal was that they get the rabbit to show to judges, which will teach them public speaking skills all the while holding a cute rabbit. lol
Oh my! Soooo cute! Welcome to the family!
Thank you, Ju-Lyn!
Hi Esther, have you heard that Cee passed away?
https://theshowersofblessings.com/2025/04/02/remembering-cee-neuner/
I did not know until today when Linda Schaub messaged me about it. I had been wondering how she was doing for a while too since her posts were sporadic in the past few months.
Thank you for sending your link! I will check it out.
It seems like she was preparing to die since November last year.
Yes, it was very alarming to have read that she was going into hospice. It was such a shock!
Chris said she wanted to live into spring so they she could see the spring flowers. She almost did.
That is heartbreaking! I’m glad she got extra time after she wrote her farewell post in December.
Ah, my first pet was a bunny! I hope the new adventure with yours goes well 🙂
Thank you!
