sing like wildflowers

My full and kooky life as a homeschooling mommy to 2 great kids, raising a child with HLHS (Hypolastic Left Heart Syndrome), coping with depression, following Jesus, and being much too camera happy.

There he is! Maybe he’s not as cuddly as a bunny, but he’s just as cute!

Yes, it’s me! I heard we’re getting a new sibling in the house. I think mama will take duo pictures of us soon.

Hi Dart! Up close and personal with YOU, the star of the show!

Thank you, auntie Linda~ I was treated to some crickets and a roach and mama cleaned my habitat. My bridge is close to the heater, so that’s my new spot.

You are one lucky gecko Dart … it isn’t even your birthday or “anniversary of your arrival” either. You must be living right!

Thank you, auntie Linda! They are good to me and so happy when I poop.

You are indeed blessed Dart and yes, we humans worry about our little ones and poop issues. It’s like having a child sometimes, not that I know about THAT, but I have had pets and was told by the vet that I was a “helicopter pet parent” … heck, I was proud of that fact! πŸ™‚

That’s a proud badge to wear: “helicopter pet parent!” You care deeply about animals and especially the animals that you care for. I can see that about you.
I get consumed with worry when Dart doesn’t poop or when I think he’s too cold or too hot in his tank. Now that worry is compounded with Teddy. He’s warming up to us and letting us pet him; all the time we spend by his cage and petting him must make him feel more familiar with us. Our 4-H friend will be coming over in the next few weeks to teach us how to handle him so that he has positive experiences with handling.

Thank you Esther. Well both the canarys had the same vet, an avian specialist. She had a parrot at home and she said to me “you bundle up the cage – he is not a delicate flower!” Well, yes, he was a few ounces of feathers and bones and precious to me, so I continued doing that – heck I bundle myself up all the time for walking, although some days I can’t get it right. I need my mother to dress me I guess.

I took Buddy to the vet once for a toenail trim – it’s difficult to do as canaries don’t like to be held. So for his yearly physical I was present – for toenail clips, they whisked him away, cage and all to another room. Something happened one time because we came home and he went into the corner and would not come out, faced the corner, wouldn’t eat or drink for a day. He and I shared a bagel every day – he went crazy for that one piece of warm bagel which I twisted between the bars and had to hold my hand over until it cooled. He’d peck my hand as he wanted it and I had taken the stale piece away … nope, he didn’t want the piece of bagel. The next time we went to the vet, he hyperventilated in the lobby … imagine a tiny canary gasping for air and I had to run up to the desk and tell them I’d never seen him doing that and he was down on the floor (never good for a bird), so they took him into the room (away from me) and gave him oxygen. For the rest of his life (maybe 18 months) he freaked out for every vet visit. I hated taking him as he would give me the cold shoulder for a day or two and not act normal. So I know how you feel when Dart has any kind of issue and/or if Teddy will … even an upset stomach. All worrisome – pets are fun, but they come with their share of worries when you love them like you do yours and I did mine.

That’s good Teddy is feeling more comfortable with you and you will have someone to come to teach you about handling him.
