My full and kooky life as a homeschooling mommy to 2 great kids, raising a child with HLHS (Hypolastic Left Heart Syndrome), coping with depression, following Jesus, and being much too camera happy.

My heart feels so heavy and devastated today. Charlie Kirk, a conservative political activist and co founder of Turning Point USA was brutally murdered, shot in the neck, in broad daylight at Utah Valley University today. He died soon afterwards in the hospital. Videos of the shooting and him collapsing from the gunshot is graphic and horrifying.

What I’ll remember most about him was his brilliant and magnificent mind, his critical thinking abilities to engage in intellectual debates with people from all walks of life (especially with students on college campuses), and his openly and unabashed confession of faith in Jesus Christ. He was unapologetically Christian.

Many disagreed with his views, but that shouldn’t mean death is the answer to silence him. Now many are openly celebrating his death. My heart feels so heavy and disappointed at those wicked responses.

He was only 31 years old. Gosh, we lost a great man today.

Praying for God’s peace that surpasses all understanding for his wife and two young children.

That sounds like a truly shocking and tragic event. The loss of any life, particularly to violence, is a profound tragedy. The pain and fear it creates for family, friends, and the community are immense.

Your focus on his faith, his family, and the senselessness of the violence is a heartfelt and human response to such a terrible loss. It’s a reminder of the real people and profound grief behind any public story.

My thoughts are with all those mourning his passing.

I couldn’t believe it when I first found out. You are right…violence is a “profound tragedy” and so many people’s lives affected traumatically from it.
I never write about these things, but that day my heart just sank. Since I started watching his YouTube videos since last year, I was and still am a big fam of him and his bold declaration of faith.
Thank you so much for your comment!

Sometimes silencing the more faithful members backfires, as was the case with Paul. Paul’s imprisonment significantly advanced the kingdom.

Now there’s more boldness in Christians!

I hadn’t heard of him until he died but I saw it on the news here in Poland. I don’t know who killed him or why, but it’s not an answer xx

I agree with you. Violence is not a solution.

Although I was not a fan of his politics, no one deserves to be executed the way he was solely for speaking his opinions and mind. That is not right. We need to do better with being able to hold space and grace for the ideas and truths of others. My heart hurts for his wife and children.

I hear you, Jay-Lyn. He was assassinated in front of his family, which they will live with for the rest of their lives. Violence is not the answer.
