We just got back from our vacation last night and picked up Teddy from the pet sitters. His cloudy eyes are more pronounced. Ellis identified it about 2 months ago and we didnt give it much thought. There was a lot going on with Dart’s tail and Elliot wrapping up his freshman classes. I assumed it was the reflection because his eyes are usually so shiny.
Today we panicked and contacted the breeder with pictures. She thinks it’s glaucoma. Somehow, somewhere, he picked up a parasite. We will treat it with medication.
In the near future, he may be disqualified from rabbit shows because of this condition. To be judged and competent for shows, rabbits cannot have any abnormalities. I’ll have to check into that more, but for now our main concern is gettting rid of the parasite. He’s still happy and well, thankfully. Just feel sad for Teddy.
My goodness, I was crying yesterday leaving my parent’s home because my dad has glaucoma and it’s causing him issues. He’s always had eye trouble and macular degeneration and retina detachment in the past. 20 years. He’s nervous because of his eyes and my mom’s frail health, so he wrote us this letter about how much they loved us. They have a tradition of taking the kids shoe shopping each year, and this year it was emotional for all of us. They keep getting frailer. Sigh. Glaucoma for my dad and now my Teddy.

I certainly sympathize, since I have glaucoma myself. Mine’s controlled for the time being, but my eye doctor insists on seeing me every four to six months. Is the breeder sure it’s glaucoma that Teddy has? When you mentioned the cloudiness, my first thought was cataracts.
I remember you mentioning that you had eye issues a few years back when I was having issues myself. I’m so happy to hear that your glaucoma is under control. My dad’s eye pressure is high and the doctor is treating him for that. He had a retina surgery 2 weeks before my wedding in 2006 and we thought he would lose his vision. It is God’s grace that he has been able to see…the guy has had so many surgeries. It’s great that you see your eye doctor often for check ups…best to keep a close eye on it.
I sent other close up pictures of Teddy’s eyes to the breeder and she’s pretty confident. It starts with a parasite, which I had no idea he had. Ellis did see some cloudiness 2 months ago, but I thought she was being paranoid. It is now noticeable. I ordered his medicine to treat the parasite…however, it may not get rid of the cloudiness. I thought cataracts at first too. I didn’t know rabbits could get glaucoma.
So sorry to hear about your Dad and Teddy. Praying that the glaucoma will be managed and they will both be more comfortable.
Thank you, Ju-Lyn! Teddy has his medicine on the way. He’s still doing good and doing his typical rabbit things. As for my dad, he’s getting treated but it’s a rocky road for him. Thank you for your prayers!

It is tough seeing parents get frail. So glad they have built memories with Ellis and Elliot over the years. That is priceless.
We feel so bad for Teddy. He has no idea what’s going on. His medicine will arrive this Friday so he’ll begin his treatment for 28 days.
We haven’t been able to visit my parents that often over the years, except like once or twice a year. They’re for short durations but we have good memories together. Yes, you are right. Those are priceless!

Poor Teddy. I hope the medication soon puts his eyes right again. My mother had glaucoma in her final years. You’re right about it being so hard to watch our parents become old and frail. All we can do is love them just as they are at that moment.
Yes, poor Teddy. He’s been on watch from us…we are vigilant to his every move. I think being away for 10 days was tough on him at the pet sitter’s house.
Thank you for your insight that to love them at the moment is all we can do. My mom is waiting at the Er with my dad for her pelvic. It was recently discovered that she has cysts in her pelvic area. I just called her primary to find out what is going on with her and he was so short with me and rude. We will have to do some paperwork so I can have access cause so much gets lost in the translation.
I hope your mother will be all right. It’s so hard when we’re at a distance from a sick parent.

I’m so sorry to hear about your folks and Teddy too. My mom had low-angle glaucoma and had laser surgery for it. It was interesting to watch the surgery – the specialist sat on the floor and aimed a laser at her. He showed us a penny and there was a tiny hole in President Lincoln’s eye – this was showing how precise the laser could be. As to Teddy, I hope the medicine helps to clear up his eyesight. Do you notice when Teddy has free range outside of his cage that he has difficulty finding his foot or any one of you?
