My full and kooky life as a homeschooling mommy to 2 great kids, raising a child with HLHS (Hypolastic Left Heart Syndrome), coping with depression, following Jesus, and being much too camera happy.
Welcome to my blog! My name is Esther and I’m so happy you are here. I’m an avid nature photographer and a daydreaming thinker. My posts revolve around photos of nature’s beauty, homeschooling adventures with my 2 kids, sporadic reflections on my child’s heart condition, Bible reading reflections, gardening feats, and other mish mash things. Hopefully you’ll leave encouraged, pensive, or smiling at the simple things of life. Thank you for stopping by and hope you’ll find some interesting posts to read!
This is so funny! Those crickets were definitely taunting, and Dart’s expression is awesome. I think Dart needs his own youTube channel, or something. He is so photogenic and fun. 🙂
It was hilarious to see! Dart was so confused that he couldn’t get them but was very determined. We got him live mealworms last week, but they’re very high in fat. I give too many cuteness treats, and kids get upset with me. They say it will lead to obesity and bad health.
Funny thinking about mealworms putting on the pounds … or I should say ounces. 🙂 Good for the kids knowing everything about their little pet’s health. You’ll have to come up with another reward … a pat on the head just doesn’t work like it does with Fido, does it?
Isn’t it?! Mealworms are fatty, so you need to diversify the gecko’s diet with other insects. We’ve heard that some geckos will refuse other food and get addicted to mealworms. Next on the food list is roaches. What the heck?! It’s like some special roach that has lots of nutrients. We’re learning a lot about bugs in the process. I’m glad bugs don’t creep me out easily or else this would be a challenging endeavor. lol
A small snake would be fun, but it eats mice. I just can’t go there…beyond me. So no snakes as pets for us.
Oh wow – I didn’t realize a gecko’s diet was that diverse. Roaches … you are a good mother to have a pet eating roaches. I would be freaking out for sure. The snake would be a hard “no” for me too – feeding it mice, no thanks. When I go to see Luc, the bald eagle at Lake Erie Metropark, he has a tree stump with his meal on it – happily for me, he isn’t fed daily, just four or five days a week so I don’t always see dead white rabbits or a white rat slung across the tree stump. I’ve learned to keep my eyes trained on Luc, not below his perch.
Thank you, Linda! I try to get excited for the same things my kiddos like. But I have to draw the line…no snakes with a mice diet. To think of sharing freezer space with a frozen mouse is more than I can handle. lol
These special roaches are bred for feeding lizards and they don’t look that terrible. If we get it, I’ll post a picture with a warning so that people don’t get too unsettled before opening the post.
Oh yikes, to see a dead white rabbit or rat being feasted on would be startling and gross! Those keepers must have a strong stomach. Yea, Linda, just look up and see Luc from his perch. Don’t look down at his food tree stump…could lead to eye damage!
I’d have a problem sharing freezer space with frozen mice too – ugh. I looked down one time, was a big grossed out and now don’t look down. In the five years I’ve been going to this metropark, I’ve never seen Luc on the ground drinking water from the tub they put in the corner, nor eating … I don’t know when it happens. He only sits on that perch and swivels his head backward.
That head swiveling must be quite a sight! I think he eats and drinks when no one is around…when people are around, high vigilance must kick in instinctively.
Yep, I just can’t share the freezer space. That’s more than I stomach. Ack!
Yes, that could be Ester … he is by himself in that wooden cage, but with no eyesight in one eye and a broken wing, Luc must feel defenseless, so he doesn’t trust humans not to harm him when he is at ground level. His perch has a long flat stick for him to walk up/down since he can’t fly, but I’ve not seen him use that either. No, mice in the freezer next to the ice cream and popsicles – not a good thing. 🙂

Beautiful macro photoshoot. So smart cricket & taunting. I like.
The crickets are taunting and having fun with Dart! Our gecko was so determined to eat one although it didn’t realize the plastic barrier. It was an entertaining sight. Dart got many years afterwards.
I’m glad you like it.
Take care, friend 😀

Well yeah
That’s definitely taunting

😂 poor dart! He looks like he wants to eat them very badly!
The cricket on the left has its mouth open … I imagine it saying “na, na, na, na, na – you can’t get us!”
