When Diamond comes over, she takes a few hours to warm up, but once she does, she’ll hop out of her hutch, hop around, and boop us with her nose for pets. It’s funny when she kicks up her legs and hops, which we learned is called a binky. She also does a dramatic flop by laying on her side and showing us a side of her belly, which usually leads to more petting on her belly and head.
Diamond also got a chance to meet Dart, our leopard gecko, but the kids would not even think about getting the two pets next to each other. So yes, Diamond did meet Dart and vice versa; they looked at each other and that was the end of their meeting.

Aww Diamond the bunny is so cute! I’m glad y’all had some time with her. My daughter used to have a rabbit when she was younger. Such a cool pet, and our dogs loved him, too. They’d play around together. 🙂

Rabbits are fun and I’d love to have one too. Some are free roam in the house…although it makes me wonder how to prevent them from chewing up the electrical cords. When my husband was in grad school, him and his roommate found a stray rabbit that they kept as a pet for years. Do you know they rabbit bore a hole through their couch!!?? Serious chewing power
I remember our rabbit had to have his teeth filed down by the vet. It seems their teeth keep growing longer and they have to chew to keep them managable. Strange isn’t it! 🙂
Yes, they need to constantly chew on something or they will keep growing! Wow, I didn’t think it’d require a vet visit. How did the rabbit do during the filing?

In Louisiana, there’s a yearly rabbit festival. It’s held in Lake Charles now, but it used to be in a little town; I went one year. I had a friend who had two rabbits as pets for years, and when each of them died, it was as heart-wrenching for him as if a dog or cat had died. They really do have personalities.
Why are those fun festivals so far away from us?! I know my kiddos would go bonkers to attend a festival like that.
I can see how rabbits can make delightful pets and they are very sweet, responsive, and playful. I have a tendency to compare pets with dogs and cats, because they are like the traditional pets that people have. But now I’m having a paradigm shift of which animals can make good pets. As you know, Dart is a our little gecko and he’s not cuddly at all, yet he responds to our voices and seems comfortable around us.

That’s a pretty rabbit and a nice name as well. I had a pet rabbit when I was young. Pure white and his name was “Scratch”.
“Scratch” is a cute name. I hope it was a fun name and not telling of your rabbit’s scratching tendencies.
Diamond is so named because she has a diamond shaped color on her head. I don’t see it that much, but maybe it was more visible to my friend when the bunny was a tiny one. It’s always fun to have her visit us!
I am not sure why I named my rabbit “Scratch” – that might be a good reason. We got rid of him because we had to keep him in a basket and my mom thought that was unfair to keep him there and only get exercise outside on weekends or evenings.

It must’ve been hard to give him away even though it was for Scratch’s benefit. I hope he had a good life!!
Yes, I wonder now why I did. I have a photo with him I used one Easter but it was a B&W and not very clear. I hope it was for a better life as well Esther as I wasn’t happy to return him to the farm.
I’m sure it would’ve been much happier to have more exercise and access to the outdoors! But I can imagine how sad you must’ve been to let your bunny go. Scratch must have missed you too!!
Yes, I was upset about losing him – he went back to the farm. I have been doing the Challenge by Terri every week. It mostly has been easy since I had a ton of photos from walks taken in 2023. But there is one in April about family and pets. So I will be doing that Challenge and include the dogs, birds and Scratch too.
