My full and kooky life as a homeschooling mommy to 2 great kids, raising a child with HLHS (Hypolastic Left Heart Syndrome), coping with depression, following Jesus, and being much too camera happy.

What a week. My mom went to the emergency room on Tuesday morning after complaining for a couple of days about bodily aches, indigestion, and extreme fatigue. She had just stopped taking the weekly diabetes injection, which seemed to have triggered those side effects. She asked to stop and the doctor switched her to daily insulin shots, twice a day.

When she went to the ER this Tuesday morning, they decided to admit her to treat for high lactic acid and a UTI. She’s getting discharged today. Whew…it’s been unsettling to wait by the phone to translate for her. My mom sounds much better and more stable. Thankfully, the doctors have been patient and considerate in explaining everything to me clearly.

My initial goal when my mom went to the ER was to avoid letting the stress affect me, which would eventually trickle down to my kids’ emotional state too. I handled myself better than last November when my mom went in for an emergency pacemaker, but it wasn’t ideal. I was grumpy and short with the kids. I apologized. They understood and accepted.

Everyday is a new day to train and develop my attitude for the better. God is teaching me everyday to trust Him and to stop the incessant worrying of what could go wrong. My worries don’t stop for what the day holds, but they extend to the next few years to even decades of time. I know…it’s futile and senseless.

Philippians 4:6-7 (NLT): “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand…”

Matthew 6:34 (NLT) “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.

Learning and getting reminders from Teddy…just living life and trusting his people to take care of all his needs! I gotta have that deep trust towards God too, although He shows me everyday that He cares and provides for our whole family. So blind and cynical of my heart.

I don’t think you should beat yourself up about getting stressed. You have much more stress in your life than the average person, and you’re coping, Esther xx

It seems like Teddy would be a pretty good role model! I hope all goes well with your mother. I’m glad she was discharged, and can be back in the comfort of home.

Teddy is a great teacher for us and a fun pet to love! Thank you…my mom is home now and recovering. She’s always been frail, but her diabetes is causing her a lot of issues.

I’m sorry to hear this Esther – you do not need anything more on your plate! I’m confused though – if the weekly injections caused side effects, why would they give them more often – maybe make them every other week? I’m glad she was being discharged today and will be on the mend soon.

The doctor who gave her the weekly shot gave her the second dose in the second week, thinking that the side effects would diminish. The doctor thought it would pass, but it was getting worse for my mom. I’m glad she’s home now, but she has a lot of physical frailties. The stress gets to me!

Hmm – that’s too bad. My mom worried about meds and their side effects. If she got a cold, she would not take any cold medicine, just Delsym cough syrup, as she worried about getting dizzy from anything else as she took several types of pills the last few years of her life.

Oh gee, Esther, you have so many sources of stress, much more than the average person! But you are managing this crisis even if you feel fragile, so doing better than you give yourself credit for. Hope your Mum recovers well.

Thank you for your encouragement!! My mom is doing much better and home now. She was having a negative side effects from the diabetic shot…she’s one of those people who gets affected by the side effects.

Thank you!! The doctors this time were very patient and helpful in explaining the treatment process to me via phone. Really appreciate that doctors are so busy and they rush through the phone calls.

Oh Teddy is such a beautiful metaphor for God taking care of us the way you all take care of Teddy! I love that! 🩷
I’m glad your mom is okay! 👍

Thank you for your comment!! I’m relieved my mom is out of the hospital and back home again. She’s always been frail and aging is not helping.

Very scary! Glad your mom has gotten the treatment needed and will be home now. Teddy just sitting in the chair without a care in the world. Wish we all could be like that. 🙂

Yes, she gives me these scares! The first time she was in the er was the removal of a gallbladder, the next time was an emergency pacemaker, and this one was lactic acid. ahhhhh.
Teddy gives me a new perspective on my faith. He just chills, trusting us to take care of him.
