How will people know it’s me?!

I was going to post about Ellis’ new look and it was perfect to connect it to Nancy Merrill’s Photo A Week Challenge about something new, in anticipation for the new year. Thanks Nancy for hosting this challenge! 

Glasses are a new thing for Ellis. It’s not a forever thing; only a couple of years to strengthen her right eye. 

But a serious question has been worrying her.

When she wears them, how will people know it’s her?

So I asked her to think about mommy wearing glasses. When I put on my glasses, do I change into someone else? I’m still the same me. We had an existential talk that wearing glasses doesn’t change who you are or make you unrecognizable to people who already know her. Still, she’s wrestling with this big question.

    1. I’ll let her know! She thinks she has to hold a book when she wears her glasses. What goes through these kids’ minds! She cleans her glasses way too often, and now she cleans mine too. Teaching responsibility!!

      She has been doing well these past few days and we’re slowly getting back into our groove.

    1. I enjoy these talks too! It surprises me how thoughtful and interesting their questions are. They are making sense of life and developing their minds.

  6. Adorable…and very intriguing thoughts – isn’t it interesting that we as humans are so curious about our appearances at such a young age?

    1. I like your word choice “intriguing.” It surprises me how they are so aware of appearances and how they may be perceived by others. Starts so young. I hope I convey a positive message to them…everyone is different and beautiful in their own way. It’s all perspective and self-acceptance. I know I know. Easier said than done. i struggle with this too. 🙂 There’s so much beauty standards that are not realistic or attainable. yikes…

      2. I agree…such a shame. How much time is wasted. I don’t know if I’ll find an answer, but I’m open to try to be bolder this new year. Who cares, right?! 🙂 It’s all in the attitude.

    1. Thank you for your sweet comment!! I will let her know. She’s not yet comfortable wearing her glasses, but she cleans them constantly. Her question was surprising, but she’s sticking to it no matter how much I explain otherwise.
      Agree..asking questions is good!!
