None of the anti-nausea medications has made a long term impact on Ellis’ condition. Since she is so uncomfortable and unable to hold any liquids down orally, the GI team has ordered an anti-nausea medicine given to patients underdoing chemotherapy or recovering from surgery. Other kids who have had cyclic vomiting in the past in the hospital had positive experiences with this medication, however, some kids didn’t see any improvements. It depends on the kid.
We’re going through a list of anti-nausea medications to see if any of them will do the trick. Last night they tried an injection that was supposed to do wonders, yet she was still retching. Now, they’re trying stronger and more unusual medications to ease her symptoms. The cardiac people are following her closely to make sure Ellis’ heart is functioning well with these medications and the fluid intake balance is…well…balanced. Some numbers were off, so they’re switching the IV fluids.
Medicine is ordered. Oh dear Lord, let this be the breakthrough!

I sure hope one of the medicines works. I know you all are worried and tired, and want to be home. Prayers for your family that all will be good soon. <3
Thank you for your continued prayers! The strong medication didn’t work as planned but a cocktail of other ones helped her to pass through the difficult phases.
You poor soul! It seems crazy that they can’t find an answer. Let this be the one!
Thank you, Jo! I hoped so too.
🤗🩷
Please, let this medication be the one!
I was hoping so hard that it would be the one!! It would make life so much easier if it worked, because is she has another bout, we could get use this medication and it lasts 3 days. But no. Ugh.
🙏🙏🙏🙏
Thank you!!
🙏 for the new Rx
Ugh, unfortunately, it didn’t do the trick!! I felt defeated since I had such big hopes for it.
I’m sorry to read Ellis is back in the hospital. Sending you all peace and grace and strength to endure until you can be safe and sound together at home.
Thank you so much!! I appreciate it greatly. God is in the business of giving peace and hope and strength when life feels hopeless, and I’m thankful for that.
It is all so trying. Praying praying along with you.
Thank you, Ju-Lyn!! It’s so encouraging to know how many have supported us with prayers and with the kindest comments.
Fingers crossed the doctors have pinpointed the right medicine for Ellis.
We were so hopeful too! I was exhausted from the night before that I didn’t see them administer the medication. It was given through the IV for one hour. Since it was such a strong medication, I assumed that she’s perk right up and we’d be packing our bags to go home. No such luck. She was still nauseated and retching, and they had to give her other medications. It felt unreal that her little 66 pound body could handle so much medication at one time.
We were likewise pulling for you that this was the right “fix” for Ellis. Poor kid has been through a lot in her 10 years.
Sending you all peace and grace and strength to endure until you can be safe and sound together at home.
I can read online https://www.verywellhealth.com/ anti-nausea medicine given to patients underdoing chemotherapy or recovering from surgery.
A review of several studies showed that ondansetron is most effective compared with other anti-nausea agents for reducing vomiting associated with gastroenteritis.19
Tack care of everyone & Elliot 🙋
Hi Raj, Ellis was actually on Ondansetron. It’s also called Zofran. It works usually, but when she’s this far into the cyclic vomiting, it doesn’t work as well. It needs to be supplemented with something else.
Thank you for your well wishes and for reading up about it online!!
But now she is well 😄!
Tack care My friend Eshter!
We’re so accustomed to the process of diagnosis>treatment>cure that it always seems ‘wrong’ that something can’t be dealt with. I do hope things are better for Ellis, for you, and for your whole family.
I’m so sorry nothing has been working so far but I truly do hope this medication helps. I can’t even imagine how awful this must be for Ellis and your whole family.
Pooja, it’s so wild how we were back in the hospital again so soon after the last one! It was disbelief. I could not understand how all the different medications just didn’t work, and my goodness they tried so many kinds.
It’s just so heartbreaking seeing your child in pain. I really hope you find one that works. It’s so crazy that absolutely none of them are working.
It was frustrating to see so many medications just have no to little effect on her discomfort!!
My blood pressure was all over the place with her condition vacillating.
I can imagine, you must have been so stressed out. How’s she doing now?
She’s doing much better now! I have more tools (medications) in my toolbox to help her if another trigger seems to start off the nausea and throw ups. It’s been kind of crazy the past 2 months.
Yeah, I know it’s been a lot for you guys recently. But it’s good you’re prepared.
Oh my goodness, Esther! I am catching up on WordPress and disappointed at myself for missing that Ellis was back in the hospital so that I could have been praying for her. I am so sorry. Wishing I could reach out to give you a hug. My heart and my prayers go out to you and your family.
Oh no way, please don’t be disappointed in yourself! How could you have known?! Thank you for your prayers and well wishes.
I did feel your hug…thank you so much for that and for your continued prayers!!
Sorry to hear Ellie is nauseated again. I pray that the doctor finds something right for her!! 😍
